1999 Mercury Villager 3.3L Code P0325 Knock Sensor

Hello i have a 99 Mercury Villager 3.3L. This vehicle has an engine code p0325knock sensor problem. I started doing the test for p0325, in step #2 it says " Check for ks circuit for short to ground" (title). Disconnect in-line connector.Measure resistance of ks circuit between PCM connector terminal #63(white wire) and ground terminal #45(black/red wire). If resistance is greater than 10k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10k/ohms, repair circuit in wiring. My step#2 test results are, the ks wiring measures around 1.5 ohms but if you twist little bit of the sub harness the reading are 0ohms. So it means that the sub harness is faulty. I call my local Dealer, they told me that sub harness is discontinued from market. I dont want to get used, cause i know that they are gonna be faulty or they are not gonna last long. So my Question is Can i make a ks wire that contains the propper ohms resistance?. And do you think is safe if i make a wire with a resistor in the middle? The sub-harness that im talking about is the one that has the injector connectors and then it has a connection to the pcm harness. Please let me know if you had this experience before, or if you have any answer to my question. THANK YOU.

I don't think that there is anything special about the wire going to the knock sensor, the 10kohms sound like the resistance of the sensor it's self. The PCM only checks the resistance (voltage drop) to see if the circuit is good, the actual knock sensor signal is measured in frequency. Maybe someone else knows more about this than me but I would think a good copper wire, about 18 gage soldered and sealed should work.

the nissan quest clone....knock sensors always fail on these due to location and the threads building corrosion..as far as the pig tail all it is is regular wires with a shield....

I may have messed that up, the actual signal might be measured in amplitude

Thankx you guys. Gentz, yeah they are nissan clone. Im going to do a wire on monday, cause today im stuck with a ford scape (transmission problem). I wanted to hear from other people before doing it. I let you guys know later about this van, well once again thankx.

It's ok to replace the wire, but you must shield it using aluminum foil or something. If you don't shield it then RFI, RMI or other type of interference may affect the knock sensors frequency output signal. Many other untrained tech may probe the wire through and cause a short from the shield ground to the signal wire when testing the sensor and cause the problem with the wiring as you have found. NISSAN has very bad common knock sensors so replace the sensor as well.

Mike, I fix these shielded circuits all the time, go to the local electronics store, pick up simple video cable (its shielded) cut to correct length and install connectors from old loom HTH! keep away from heat sorces when routing If this sensor is mounted in the intake valley, add heat shielding tubing to protect this circuit, what I have found is the input is incased in plastic with ground shield over then outer layer or insulation, due to high heat plastic case melts allowing input circuit to ground to shield

Okay, i did the new knock sensor wire on monday. I had a 18g wire cover with aluminium foil. Then i cover it with shrinking tube, plastic wire cover and electrical 3M tape. I cleared code with my verus.Test drive the mini van like 20 miles and re checked for any codes. No codes were stored, problem solved. Thankx you guys. I haved work on this problems before, but i usually replace the harness. This van gave me one more experience. Oh the funny thing, on wednesday a customer brought me a nissan quest with the same problem. Funny huh! . But this quest has a bad knock sensor has 0 ohms. I still replaced the little sub-harness just in case. O well, once again thanks you guys for your help.
