2000 buick LeSabre needed a new steering rack. After repairing the steering I reconnected the battery and test drove the car. All was fine until I attempted to change the HVAC temp and vent during the test drive and they did not respond. All HVAC controls worked prior to any of my repair work. I ended up replacing both mode and temp control actuators! All I can figure is when I reconnected the battery the HVAC module performed a recalibration of all the HVAC actuators, pushing the little plastic gears inside past their normal range of movement and stressing them to the point of failure. I also had a 2008 saturn vue waste an actuator after a new battery install too, suffering the same fate as the buick i assume.

I usually hook up auxillary power source to the power cable connection stud at the main junction box and good body or engine ground and just deal with having to work extra carefully under the seat or trunk not to arc the B+ cable against a ground. It's bad enough just having to reset radio time again , let alone dealing with anti theft radio codes, or idle relearns of vehicles that have had batteries disconnectedComment

Matt I recently did the blower motor on an 01Buick LeSabre that was a PITA, saw what happened to you and I didn't want to disconnect the under seat battery for that reason on the old vehicle with brittle plastic actuator gears.
