Had to check this out after reading The Motor Article from 12 years ago. It demonstrated to difference in primary ignition voltage patterns on a lean cylinder, so I had to try it myself. You can clearly see a rise in the coil voltage at the end of the third burn time. The first screen shot should be with normal fuel mixture, then with the injector unplugged at idle then the last is with the injector unplugged with a load on the engine. Creating a vacuum leak simulated the same results, just a little harder to see.
