    Ethos & AA Batteries

I have had my ethos for about a year, I bought it in march of last year. This thing eats up some double A batteries, I knew that the scanner had a rechargable battery option and I went out and bought some expensive rechargables, now my scanner is dead and the batteries wont recharge! I have the scanner set to "rechargable" in the setup options. can anyone shed some light on this subject?

See section 2.5.2 of your owners manual. "Battery power should not be the primary source of power". Vehicle power should be your primary source when testing and the AC/DC power supply is a great source for reviewing data. Selecting Battery type in the setup options sets the low battery warning message threshold (pg 36). Hope this helps

Does it say in the manual what type of rechargeables to use? There are different kinds out there which different charge voltages and current rates.

I gave up on batteries, I just use the power adapter, or obd2 plug.

Does it still apply to the new ethos pro?

Yep , takes 6 AA's just like a good ole fashioned vibrator you can Rube Goldberg a carbide tip onto and engrave your tools.
I would make sure those 6 AAs aren't forgotten and don't end up leaking inside the scan tool.
Maybe just leave the AA batteries out and just piggyback Velcro a portable 12v rechargeable lithium battery to the back of the scanner and plug it into the circular AC adapter port, like I did with my Port Freight 08.
How did you dredge up such an old post? The forum search bar work for you?

ETHOS does not have a "circular AC adapter port". Totally Screwed. Just use Lithium AA's.

Are you trying to recharge the batteries with the Ethos? If so, that doesn't work. You need a separate charger.

Yes, that requires you to remove the diagnostic cable to connect the adapter every time, which is not really a viable solution in any busy workshop.
