We added an Autel a couple weeks ago, for the price it's a good scanner. So far haven't had any issues with it other than with Chrysler's, won't even hook it to another Chrysler until they release some updates.

Wouldn't pick it as my main scanner, but as a backup/sidekick it's a worthwhile option.

I Bought a DS708 back in May of this year. It does work on Chrysler if you buy the adapter it's an extra. I have had no Problems with this Scanner. Its a great Machine for the money. Keep Smiling.

Have the adapter for Chrysler, still doesn't work properly. Get slow/no communication, lockups and incorrect data. Has happened with several different Chrysler products. On a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9L Turbo Diesel it locked up several times and gave incorrect data when it did work. Verified the data stream with three other Scanners. On a 2008 Caravan it locked up while trying to communicate with Airbag and ABS. It also errored while trying to perform a transmission relearn. Sent bug reports and they emailed back stating they are working to improve Chrysler Compatability issues.

Autel DS708 is going for $1300 now, brand new. That is cheap but it is cheap for a reason. The tool is not that good and it is not better than solus pro.

DS708 asian OBD1 connectors do not work on north american models, there is only one domestic obd1 connector and that is GM. The Euro OBD1 connectors do work and seems like maxidas is very strong on euro cars.

Maxidas can't do all that it shows that it can do, it will show many fancy diagnostic features but when you go ahead and try to use them they don't work.

just a thought, why would you spend money on a new scanner for obd 1 cars anyway? i'm not pickin' a fight. it just doesn't make any sense to compare obd 1 coverage at all. that's why you have an old brick (or hope that your solus, modis, etc. doesn't let you down ).

Like Cracker said i dont really rely in my scanners for obd1 cars. But to be honest the autel is a pretty good scanner for its price. It can only do so much and that is the reason why it us price at $1300. There is no such thing as any scanner that can do everything thats why now days alot of shop have more then just 1 scanner. But for the price you pay for the maxidad it is totally worth having for what it is capable of doing. Dont want to pick on anyone or start any arguements but its just my 2 cents about what i think of the scanner and im sure some people might disagree and some might agree but to each their own opinions.

I keep my old MT2500 for the OBD1 asian domestic coverage, its cheap now so I don't even care if other scanners can or can not do obd1.
Because of the Maxidas being so cheap and can do so much, this is making future Snap on scanners better, they are adding more euro coverage at every new software release.

Reason why I sold my Maxidas is because it can't read nissan consult port on 1996-2001 nissans despite the fact that scanner comes with that connector. Also it can't do 1996-1999 BMW active component tests it gives you the option but it does not work. Too many holes in the maxidas software can be frustrating sometimes

FWIW I farm myself out to shops that are not capable of doing OBDI work, or even OBDII work they can't get worked out. To me a scanner that incorporates OBDI is important. While I realize this isn't a huge benefit to a lot of techs, it does matter to some of us.

oh, i see where you're coming from. obd 1 is still good to have. just seemed odd to me that anyone that already has a snappy scanner would want to add maxidas for obd 1 coverage .

seems to me, at present anyway, the only perceived benefit to maxidas is the price point. time will tell.

Wow Someone is out of tune. The Maxidas 708 does 1996 Obd 2 plus Vehicle Specific up to and including 2012. It Does Vehicle Specific Euro Asia and American very well. I think if Your Snappy Scanner doesn't have the vehicle info you are wanting then Just Plug on the 708.Its a great Scanner. Has more functions than a Snappy and gets free updates all the Time for a year. Way More than 2. I pull out my 708 always as a first choice now. Maybe this will get snappy moving and doing a better job with there updates. When there is a vehicle problem it is sent in.A new update is sent for down load and that problem is resolved. I have nothing bad to say about it. Keep Smiling.

i'm not sure why you quoted me . is it because i said the only "perceived benefit is . . . the price point"? i'm sure the maxidas is great. i'm betting it's obd2 coverage is way better than any obd1 coverage it may have. that was the basis of my point. why would you base a scanner purchase on obd1 coverage? frankly, i'd base my purchase on what you stated above. in the words of the easter bunny carrying easter yeggs, "keep smiling".
