Windows update on my Verus Pro notified me of end of support, hence the question. Where is the information coming from that says 2016 or 2018?Comment

Microsoft pushed that message to every version of XP. That's why you got that popup.
Here is a link to Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/lifecyc...pha=windows+xp

"End of support" means M$ will no longer publish patches, service packs, or call-in tech support for the XP platform. It does not mean that the OS will cease to function, or will "break". Here in Texas, the state inspection machines from ESP are based on Windows 98, and they seem to do fine. The Verus Pro can take a Windows 7 installation, it's just a matter of finding the drivers for the hardware (if available).S. BrelandComment

Not true to my knowledge. GM ended all support for XP in April, required everyone to upgrade to 7Pro. At least in CustomerCare&Aftersales.(Service&Parts)Comment

XP Embedded good till 2018 on Windows updates
I looked into this. XP Embedded is supported until 2018, but it's up to Snap on to get the updates out.
They have the means to do so, but it was designed more for SO Service releases and will need to be refined to deliver Windows updates.
As for now, all of my V machines are still receiving Windows
updates, my Verus Pro did 5 "important updates" last night.
I reimaged my Verus Classic to a later image to turn on the Windows update function. The first round took a few hours to load and update, since there were so many. I just let the updates go when I didn't need the tool.
I can say that I didn't notice any differences after the updates. I still wanted the security fixes.
We are good till 2018.
