Default Beware 18.2 update

I updated to 18.2 on ZUES and lost IPR control on 6.0 fords. I reported to Snapon diagnostic 10 days ago and today they told me it would take 3 months to fix.

The update took away the ability to activate IPR % so if you go to look at data while driving, the vehicle while stall. the warning when entering IPR % control says do not activate longer than 120 sec or IPR could be damaged. Well I didn't know they removed the activation button and when truck stalled I thought it was something my tech did. I tried to restart Truck and got out to look under the hood not thinking the IPR was activated maybe 3 minutes passed when I realized what happen. I drove back to shop to use my Verus Pro and my tech update that too. Now I lost ability to control IPR while driving. I wonder what else is screwed up? I'll post more in this thread as I find them.

Judging by other threads here going back years and years, they keep removing different abilities to do things with updates which confounds us as the end users. Every machine they make is more powerful and has more storage so there's room and ability to do the stuff it used to, so why remove features that allow us to do more?
It certainly confounds me.

And thanks for the heads up!

Likely there was an issue with the way the test worked or functioned. Just like the cylinder contribution test on the fords a few years back.

Unfortunately we are not notified of that. We get the displeasure of finding out after we paid for the update...

Sometimes I don't think the test team notifies the Tech support line of these issues and they likely get the sewage storm that ensues...

I can't get too wound up about an "Oops, we broke something." Like I don't make mistakes.

The removal of features is what gets me. "Pretty sure my customer never uses cruise control, I'll just remove all that. Their spare's flat so they don't need the TPMS system to be monitoring it so I'll disable that. Heck I'll just throw their whole spare tire away. Without a spare they won't need a jack and tire tool either, I'll toss that. Think of the gas mileage and top speed they'll gain without all that dead weight!"

OK, not exactly a great comparison, but you get the idea of how I feel about it.

They pulled this kind of crapola big time and on purpose when they brought out the 10.4 update on the verus and there have been missing features since. Nothing new here. Once they give you a feature they should never remove it - it's just plain unethical and wrong. As far as I know, they first started this with the black programmable cartridges on the brick - removing older vehicle info to add the newer because of limited space. This worked fine for those who had their older cartridges to use when needed, Their reason was understandable in this case because the space was needed and the older cartridges gave you a quick workaround and no one got hurt. But for some reason, they still think it is OK to take features away and / or screw things up just because they want to and / or can - change for the sake of change whether or not it improves or hurts anything and SCREW the customer if he doesn't like it.

Problems like those mentioned with features SHOULD be picked up and worked out during beta testing before release - that's the purpose of it

I don't feel the problem is the test team - they still work day to day in the shop as the rest of us do, only most likely as diagnostic specialists and therefore know our needs and can better communicate these to anyone at Snap On who cares. - the problem is the bigwigs don't listen to the beta testers anymore than they listen to the customers. They have their own agenda and beta testers and customers just get in the way. Kinda like the government behaves.
Also they don't tell us these things because they get US to pay THEM for the privilege of
doing their beta testing for them. Nice setup - for them.

Smile Snap-On Support

I have found their support to be great. Many times I will discover an issue and send them a DETAILED report of the problem. Most times i get an answer or phone call the same day!

Several have told me the biggest issue is lots of complaints, but no DETAILS about the problem (VIN#, equipment used, conditions, error messages, etc.) to help them duplicate and verify the issue.

Take the time to DETAIL the problem and they have a better chance of fixing it.

Angry Still no solution

I have emailed them and called with my reference number and NOTHING! 18.4 did not fix the problem even though I was told the update would.

the only thing they changed was the ability to start the control of the IPR. It is instant on when you enter it now.
