[QUOTE=hawkhunter;13620]Has anyone looked into or tried Nortons XP Embedded Virus protection?
You might want to check out their pricing structure because it is my understanding that the $51.60 cost is per license and 5 licenses are the minimum. That would make it a $258.00 investment cost.
I could be wrong in my understanding. That was kept me from trying.
Not having a Verus yet I can't try anything myself, but is there any reason Avira wouldn't work?
Anyhow I found these..
Does the system restore exist in XPe on the Verus btw?..
---------------------------------
The two solutions for antivirus on XPe that I've tested are both free,
and fairly simple to install.
First is ClamAV from portableapps.com
Second is Trend Micro's Sysclean
For some background, I needed standalone AV applications for XP
embedded and this AV package needed to get pushed down to the XPe
boxes without any user interaction. Because of these constraints, I
could not run the installation on each XPe.
What I did is run these as a regular installation on a test XPe system
and determined the files and folders for the installation directory --
the benefit to the ClamAV portableapps version and Trend's Sysclean is
there are no registry entries or changes, and the necessary DLLs and
executables reside in the same directory. After the install on the
test box, I copied the relevant folders to a USB stick, added a simple
batch script to copy from the USB to the XPe hard drive, and voila!
Hope this helps people who are looking for a fast, easy anti-virus
installation for Microsoft XP embedded systems.
Ok I installed Avira on my verus yesterday. It has a lot less resource requirements than most of the software listed above. I have not found any issues with it at this time. Oh and did I mention its free too.
Sent you a pm posting here as the forum didn't automatically e-mail me on PM so only just found and answered your one.
Additional to what I mentioned in the PM I also finally found a way to get the Verus to file share on a local area network, its to do with various security policy settings, If you need to know this again PM me. I could get the Verus on the network send files to other PC's but every time I wanted to view the shared folders or send to the Verus it would ask for a non existent username and password....
I have the same problem in my system. Its because of the PC2100 DDR RAM in my mobo. Its only rated to run at 266. Any more than a couple of MHz added on the fsb will get this error. The solution I discovered was to get PC2400 or PC2700 I got 2700 which is rated to run above 266. Hope this helps.
