    "Extras" installed on the Verus

OK fellow Techs, can some of you please post here what all you have SUCCESSFULY installed and confirmed to work on your Verus as in other scantool software, and OEM software. I have read here and there of the other software put on the Verus, but I would like a compiled list please. Thank you all in advance.

AE, Vag-Com, Toyota Techstream the scan tool protion worked great but the flashing did not work so well as the Verus does not meet the min requirements for RAM. FMP J2534 reflashing. Then of course there is Ondemand and Alldata.

OK, I'll get to a sharper point: Snapon has a huge hole in coverage, one that the Chinese are filling with their reverse engineered tools. I plan on keeping my Verus as long as I can hold it, but I am not naive in thinking it will ever have it all. Instead of filling my diagnostic drawer full of dedicated and bulky hardware, I think it would be much easier to simply install PC based diagnostics on the Verus. This is of course not a new idea, as many of you have done this already, and hence my question. Besides the obvious O.E. software(s), what aftermarket stuff have you all installed and used with success, (Auto Engenuity, Ease, Vag-Com etc) and would recommend? As far as not playing nice with other software already installed, I can mitigate this by using multiple partitions with XPe on each partition, and booting into which ever I need. Thanks for your help.

          Other Software on the Verus

          Well Lets see..

I currently have AE, (waiting for the version 10.0 harware upgrade), OTC Pegysis PC Scan, Ford IDS, PCM Scan, (Palmer Engineering), EFI Live Scan/Tune, Alldata and Mitchell. I also have a small program called Tether which allows me to use my Blackberry as a modem to connect to the internet through cellular network if wifi is not available. Of course Shop Stream Connect as well. I have had no conflict issues so far, (knock on wood). A faster processor and more RAM would make this unbeatable!

Just as an experiment I was scanning a Dodge with the wireless S3 bluetooth module and I minimized the scanner while it was recording data and started up AE which uses the USB cable and scanned a second car using that at the same time. I was going to try using the Pegysys software which is 802.11G wireless at the same time but that software is very memory and processor intensive. I was able to run Alldata at the same time though.

I have done the memory upgrade and increased the HD to a 512GB SSD. Runs significantly cooler with this HD.

Love this tool. Mine is the Gen 1 Verus

I have the Gen2 Wireless Verus and I've installed the GM GDS2, WinTech2, Bosch Shopforman Pro software, E-Scan, I-flash, and Honda's HDS software. I've used Chryslers Reprograming software and Ford FMP7.5. to reflash and its worked ok without any problems so far. I've also had Bosch Mastertech VCI running but had to remove it to use the GM MDI and GDS2 as well as WinTech2 because they are not compatible. This Verus is able to keep up and run the Altlas Suite and at the same time running other software. I'm always scanning wireless 2 vehicles at the same time with the GDS2 Wifi and Atlas Bluetooth. I've just upgraded to 11.4 and it seems to run now even better.

How often are you guys restoring? I know its a silly, and worst case scenario, but I have kept my unit "bone stock" because I dont want the hassle of installing/configuring/getting working each software suite, only to have to reimage the unit and start over. I realize its probably not a big deal, but I have enough to do during the day without my unit crashing. I have a seperate laptop I keep FMP, Wabco Toolbox etc on, and think I'll keep it that way.

That is definately a concern. I really believe most scanner problems can be resolved without reimaging but often when you call tech support that is high on their priority list. It definately would have to have all that third party software reinstalled after a reimage. So far I have only had to do that once since I had the Conficker virus on mine. That was almost three years ago and so far so good. (knocking on wood)....

If you install the programs on the D drive and if you have to reimage, it will not be affected. Only the C drive gets cleared out.

Hey Nick that D: drive is too small, less than 3 GB, with the rest going to the reserved backup partition (in unalocated space). Also, most programs edit keys in the registry, and deposit needed files in the C:\Windows\system32 folder, which would get wiped out when you do a restore. HTH.

Well I don't re-image my Verus quite often, even with all the things I've installed and use every day. but I also backup my files and programs. So when I do re-image I could restore everything back. I'll be surprised that this New wireless Verus is much stable and faster than my 1st Gen I had. As For having a Reliable Verus, don't install too much junk and Don't run any Antivirus or security software. Just keep it simple, no email, no music, (I-tunes) No Porn!! or any none work related Web sites. Be Smart about this Tool and you'll benefit from it like I have. Yes It's cost a bundle that's because It's a Diagnostic peace of machine and not a PC. Like someone else stated here, A Netbook is cheaper and faster but It doesn't have a 4ch Scope? To tell you guys the truth I like My Verus and even though I no longer run my Own shop. Here at the dealership I use it every day and now my Bosses pay for the Update's and we just got 11.4. Much better and The Ford EVAP functional test is working ok. Thanks Snappy

                        ok

So how are you guys getting all of this software downloaded onto your verus? are there free downloads somewhere or do you have to purchase these?

Except for the major hardware as in processor, chipset, and graphics. Sure you can chunk a bigger mem module, or SSD/HDD, or swap out the WiFi card, but that's about it. As far as software, it depends on the "Minimum system requirements". Try to enter the BIOS, as Snappy has it pass worded.
