Both are right and both are wrong.
The tool should have the proper commands, yet the vehicle is capable of adjusting.
It's usually better to reset everything to base program after a repair and let the vehicle relearn with a clean slate. If you don't, sometimes the vehicle can't adjust fast enough and it resets a code.
