Bang mark on via usb wireless adapter every boot up

    Hi All,

I have a customer with a verus scanner:

Buried inside it (you have to disassemble the unit) is a "Via Network Technologies USB Wireless Lan adapter"

Problem: the wireless adapter always boots up with a bang
mark on it in the device manager. If I uninstall it and
scan for new hardware, it comes back perfectly. That is,
until you shut down and reboot. Then the bang mark is back.

Anyone know how to fix/troubleshoot this?

    Many thanks,
    -T

    USB Device

My Verus also does the same but only when I'm using a USB keyboard or any other USB device attached the the Verus and boot it up, If I uninstall it as you mentioned it also comes back perfect, I think it's a USB device conflict problem with the Verus, as far as fixing it, we need to call tech support and let them know of the problem so they can help, I haven't yet because once I reinstall the device it works just fine. Has any one else seen this problem?

I'm using a wireless usb keyboard & wireless mouse and once plugged in we get a "power surge on usb hub port" message, -only- if we plug in the devices after system has boot into windows, which is kind of funny because the Verus we demo, using the same usb devices did not display this message at all at any time???

I have two customers with the same problem. On the first one, it cleared on its own after about 10 reboots. On the second one, I had to delete the USB hub from the device manager and reboot. If you decide to do this, be for warned, it will somehow kill your Virus Diagnostics programs license. Tech support can remotely log in and fix it.

IF YOUR VERUS IS BOOTING UP WITHOUT WIRELESS, I FOUND A FASTER AND SIMPLER WAY TO GET IT RUNNING BACK WITHOUT LOOSING ANY DATA OR SETTING.

1: GO TO DEVICE MANGER, RIGHT CLICK ON MY COMPUTER, MANAGE, THEN DEVICE MANAGER.

2: LOOK FOR THE WIRELESS ADAPTER, YOU WILL SEE A YELLOW QUOTATION MARK ON IT.

3: CLICK ON IT AND OPEN, GO TO GENERAL PROPERTIES TAB,THE 1ST TAB ON TOP. BELOW YOU WILL SEE A DROP DOWN MENU SHOULD SAY "ENABLE THIS DEVICE" OR "DISABLE DEVICE"

4: SELECT DISABLE THIS DEVICE ON THE DROP DOWN LIST. PRESS OK BUT DON'T CLOSE WINDOW IT MAY CLOSE BY ITSELF.

5: REOPEN GO BACK TO DROP DOWN LIST SELECT ENABLE OR PRESS THE ENABLE BUTTON AND OK. PRESS NEXT AND FINISHED. THAT'S IT.

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND IT SHOULD WORK OK, UNTILL YOUR NEXT REBOOT. JUST REPEAT THIS STEPS ALL OVER AGIAN WHEN EVER YOUR WIRELESS ADAPTOR IS NOT WORKING...

I'd like to add my voice to the list of people who are experiencing this irritating issue. Most of the time I boot the Verus it does exactly what the other posters have said: No wireless, and a bang mark by the device in the device manager. I can get around it by uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but then I need to re-enter my network key... which can be irritating, especially given the on-screen keyboard.

I do not hang any other USB devices off of it. I just boot it up and go. Sometimes I will get connectivity, and then when I leave the range of the network, I will get the same issue. Sometimes it will reaquire.

I can't say if this started with a certain SR or anything as the only version of the software I've had is 9.2, SR2. (Unless I am mistaken)

Very frustrating to have to fiddle with the network settings. Much faster to just walk to my PC where everything just works.

If you have "bang mark" or device error on the wireless card, you can also fix it by going this route:

                  1) Double click on the wireless icon with the warning triangle on the bottom right corner
                  2) Click on the "Support" tab
                  3) Click on the "Repair" button - this will begin an automated process
                  4) Click on "Close" once the process completes

Once the "bang mark" clears, relaunch your internet browser and you are good to go.

Thank you for that, but it does not apply to my situation.

When I mean I have a bang mark by the icon I mean in the device driver list. My wireless icon disappears from the system tray completely. Also, the tray icon is not hiding away due to inactivity. The wireless disappears from "Network Connections" entirely.

The only way to return it is into manually uninstall and reinstall the driver.

That has been EXACTLY what my concerns are since Dec-2007, having things JUST WORK-!!
It doesn't matter if it's network settings or anything else.
Goofing with this, fiddling with that..... We've got enough to think about fixing the vehicles let alone fixing the equipment that's supposed to give us the correct information and functionality that we all paid for in the first place.
The more bells and whistles there are the more there is to break-!!
If advertising says the machine will do something, it should, without fiddling, every time you turn it on.

WELL PUT!! I AM GETTING TIRED OF CHASING THIS FRIGGAN THING AND HAVING TO KEEP REBOOTING IT TO GET MY WIRELESS TO WORK. OR HAVE TO RESTART A TASK TO GET IT TO OPERATE.

TO GO WITH THAT, RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN GETTING PROMPTS TO PUT IN MY SERVICE PACK 2 CD BECAUSE THE VERUS IS MISSING FILES NEEDED TO RUN MY FLASH PROGRAM.

This is a Snap~On site so hopefully if a snapon rep is watching it. I have called my diag rep / tech support and cant seem to get help. Was told I would be called back from a level 2 tech guy (who ever that is) going on 2 weeks ago.

So please fix it or give me my money back.

I hope you havn't been holding your breath for 2 weeks-LOL
I gave up calling last year because there were no solutions, corrections or call backs.
And NO, I'm not paying more money for what should have been correct in the first place! Our customers demand that OUR work is correct, why should we, as customers, have to pay again?
What would happen if we, as technicians let cars out the door with as many errors as the software is let out the door with??

With Modis Or Verus Both When I Had Version 8.2 On My Modis It Was Fine But Since Then Ver 8.4 And 9.2 Niether Has Worked. I Checked This With My Brick And its Ok But Running Older Black Cartride For That Updated Till 03 I Has Set My Sync On The High Side With My Modus 8.2 To 8 Factory Is 0 But With Modus And Verus At 8.4 And 9.2 It Now Says The Setting Is 2 So I Rechecked With My Brick And It Says 8 So Hope This Helps As Well.
