Verus pro and ransomware

Hi all. I have a slight concern with my verus pro. Since there has been a few online attacks with ransomware viruses i am wondering if the embedded windows xp is protected as such.

My verus is connected to the internet mainly for wireless printing but is this a good idea?

Is there a anti virus that we could use. I have used avg on other computers but do find it power hungry.

I don't think it just can get on your Verus from having the WIFI on for printing. Most likely have to go to an infected web site or open an email attachment , however I don't trust windows automatic security updates themselves on older PCs not to factor in to an old PC demise
