    Snap on Ethos 10.1

    Hi Guys.
I am new to diagnostics and by no means am i a mechanic.

I am considering buying a used Snap on Ethos, i believe its 10.1.

Can anyone give me a list of cars or a link where i can get a list what can be diagnosed and faults cleared.

Does this do bi-directional, what would the benefits be?

    Thanks in advance

The "Ethos" scanner is a slimmed down version of other SnapOn scanners and doesn't do Bi-Directional.

    Look into a Solus-PRO.

The newer Solus-Ultra still needs some serious developmental attention

Then there's the "All-In-One" SnapOn offerings such as the Modis (nla), the Verdict and several versions of the Verus, all of which are overblown IMO.

Just getting a code or looking at a datastream is only part of the process of checking, testing, diagnosing, repairing an automobile.

Yes, you definately need codes & data FIRST, but to then do anything about it, you either have to get VERY creative (not always possible) or use Bi-directional controls to command an action and then monitor the response from the electonic module (regardless of vehicle system such as ABS, HVAC or ECM/PCM)
If you're used to the systems and the testing techniques from the early 80's and early 90's vehicles, then the creative part is easier but still not always possible with the complexities of today's vehicles and systems.

To be honest i am new.. so for me this will be for basic stuff.

          Find error codes,
          Clear error codes

Right now i have a few issues on a Merc C220 Cdi 2001.
SRS light, ESP warning, steering wheel sensor needs re aligning etc.

          Also
Do you know if the ethos does milleage correction and turns of seat belt alarms?

          Thanks

            Hi CrazeUK

The Ethos does not do "mileage correction" or seat belt alarms, the seat belt alarm may not even be supported in the dealer tool as it may be used in the SRS system for occupancy detection.

What fault do you have re seat belt alarms ?

The seat belt alarms is just something a friend has asked.

Do you know if the Solus pro has those capabilities?

For afew hundred more I can get that apparently.
