Vantage ultra and low amp probe

I'm trying to do a relative compression check and can't make it work. As anyone done this with these. I was wanting to know the parameters used.

starter current in amps usually requires using a high amp probe because the starter amperage usually exceeds 100a when cranking an engine over.

I was under the impression you could use low amp probe but had to alter the settings to make it work. I was wondering if anyone done this and knew what those settings were. Thanks.

Cranking amperage is way outside the range of the low amps probe. You'l need a high amps probe to do it.

Try doing it with VOLTAGE and watch the voltage fluctuations as each cylinder compresses making the starter motor work.

Try it with the probe set at the 20 amp scale and set the scope to one volt with it AC coupled at a 2 second sweep. I always play with it a bit from there to get the best resolution. Make sure the probe is closed all the way around the battery cable.

GreasyBob has it right. You do the test under millivolts and don't id the probe as a low amp probe. Id it as standard test leads. Check out Scanner Danner on you tube. He has the complete test on his site with explanations. Then subscribe to his channel and you will learn many different ways to use your tool effectively and effieciently.
