Seems like a waste of money to pay for $60 for a one or two day access if you might be done in a few hours. Wonder if someone could come up with a subscription share App where after one person no longer needs it, the second person could purchase the remaining time and so on for $20, $10 , and the original purchaser could recoup some expense.

Or...... you would do what some people do (this is what I have heard ) hook up with a bunch on techs in other shops and when one takes out a sub you send out a group text. If another tech needs it you split the cost. Sometimes 3 techs may need it and its even cheaper. BUT..... some manufactures like GM only allow the program under the user name to be a 3 or so PC's, so you may have to lend your PC out. This means you really need to know and trust the techs in this group.......So I've heard -
GM-SPS gets ya with your IP address... BE VERY-VERY CAFEFUL or your sub could be delayed by several hours leaving ya at that shop for several hours or even going back the next day!!!!!! - been there.Comment

When I get a sub I sometimes got to 3 or 4 different locations and use their internet and so far haven't had any issues.I haven't read how they track subs, maybe they use the PCs mac address,or the ID of the interface(MDI in my case)doesn't seem to be IP or I would have had issues.Comment

So far, the used ECMs I have installed I have gotten the Immobilizer keys programmed with my old Port freight 08 to drive the Turds to a shop in the area with an IDS to flash the correct VINs. Hopefully just a matter of time before new OBD 3 regs will have to get every manufacturer to comply with getting on the same boat where the costs of admission and the complexity of doing J2534 programming is going to come way way down for everyone.
Maybe it will have to be China that makes more than half the electronic **** in the world for our vehicles to take the reigns and grab the OE's by the b@lz so their hearts and minds will follow to simplify things and lower costs for everyone instead tree huggers and air resource board in California . In less than 10 years , most savvy customer's cars will read the chip on their credit card, and the vehicle's EVIC will continue to download the vehicle latest calibration files and won't even have to be at a a shop to get things to latest calibrations unless car is collision disabled, especially plug in hybrids and EV's that will be plugged in , in customer home garage, so the battery maintainer won't be an issue.Last edited by Witsend; 02-09-2017, 09:48 AM.Comment

What is this port freight 8 i have seen it mentioned couple times and google search doesnt bring it up.Cant find it on ebay either.
If your up selling update that arent necessary for it to run you can schedule them so you have a couple to do same day to make it worth it.Last edited by bestdamgarage; 02-10-2017, 09:08 AM.Comment

It's a discontinued old touch screen Chinese Scanner model with no more new updates being made any longer that I know of ."Hole Filler" with lousy graphing and Chinglish that scared the living Sh@t out of OE tool makers as well as spurring aftermarket scan tool maker to expedite better aftermarket car coverage and modern features that you now enjoy on your scanners today and get you less reliant on the OE J2534 Teet to access immobilizer functions, etc.. Some former OE functionality allegedly has been lost due to legal woes and possible intentional dumbing of it down wanting the newer Maxi Cyst models to appear to offer more coding capability, but it really shook up the industry. In recent years to clear out unsold price cut inventory after newer model scanner released they became available at Harbor freight , so it I Nick named it Port Freight 08.

Every version of vehicle make software has it's own software version level, and there be updates for different makes of cars over the course of 12 months your free update period of a new tool lasts.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, and it applies to all scanner makers playing the game "If at least one major make's software version isn't in the proverbial function toilet at any given time , there wouldn't really be no need to buy updates for newer car coverage for several years." Snappy just tends to hold off giving you most OE functionality until the car is a decade or more old, Autistic gives you the ability to Beta test an OE function right off the bat on a newer vehicle, and P@ss customers off sending in data logs about their disabled vehicles. Choose your poison. LMAOComment
