I have a VP also and I use the COP flags. I see you are in Southport so not sure if you would be interested in attending a Snap On VP seminar 1 day. There may be an event near you if not there is one on May 18th 2010 at Warrington which you may be interested in?

i would recommend using primary volts and amps instead of the flags. or if you want secondary, try these: http://www.picoauto.com/automotive-accessories.html
you can use the flags or any other ign probe available for quick checks, but i rarely trust the accuracy of these types of tools. i was never a fan of the hei coil in cap secondary probe either. hope this helps, or a least gives you a choiceAttached FilesComment

Hi Alan
I use the two flag version as the VP is only two channel scope. The cost of the seminar is I think £100 including lunch, it's a full days training and the trainees must bring their VP with them to use on the day.

i knew i was gonna get called out on the hei adaptor i have to admit the last time i used one i had an otc solarity scope . what do you think of the flags? probably ok, but with so many coils with better shielding these days i just go for primary amps/volts or use the scantool more.Comment

Cop 11
For coils where a secondary pattern cannot be obtained due to the signal being too weak, there is a different style pickup available. Its the COP 11.
Rather than detect the secondary voltage, it detects the coils magnetic field and produces a useful pattern.
It can be found here:
http://diagnostics.snapon.com/display/1266.nws
It can be used on any coil, not just the ones listed.
I attached the manual that comes with it for reference.
The other COP pickups including the generic stick and flag won't work on applications such as the Chrysler/Jeep 3.7L and 4.7L engines because the secondary signal is too weak to detect due to the location and or shielding of the coil windings. The COP 11 will since it detects the magnetic field, not the secondary voltage.
Note that only one COP 11 can be connected to the scopes secondary adapter lead at one time. Multiple COP 11 pickups cannot be chained together as can be done with the other pickups.
The Generic stick and flag pickups can however be used on some engines where they don't appear to detect a usable pattern if you select the 2 or 3 kv scale and move the pickup around the coil to find the best spot to detect the signal. The pickups are directional. Place the side of the pickup towards the coil that says it increases the signal. The 1998-2002 Corolla for example falls into this category.Attached FilesComment

but the technical information needed is all there.
