    GM Service Bay Evap test.

    Hello Group,

    This is my first post.

I really would like to see Snap on make this test available on the Functional Test menu. This test can save techs a whole lot of time before and after repairs. Another way the GM Service Bay Evap test saves me time is that it sets the EVAP monitor to READY when the test passes. That is less time for me to prep a car for the re-test on an emissions test.

Ford has a similar test but it does not set the EVAP monitor to READY. Come to think of it most Mfg's have a comprehensive Evap test.

    Thanks, Bob

Yes, setting the monitor would save a HUGE amount of time as Evap systems are the one of the hardest to set due to the all cirteria's. S.O. now has "bypass cold soak" on Fords. So that does also save time. Little by little its getting better!

They have a "bypass soak time" option?

Hmm..you can do that with any scantool by the way. All you have to do is turn key on, clear codes (even if there are no codes..run a clear code function), and then start the vehicle WITHOUT cycling the key to the off position

        Hi Doug

I know you had stated that before, I had also heard that at a SMP evap class I took a few years ago. I have tried it SEVERAL time and with mixed results. S.O.'s bypass cold soak always seems to work. Now that I said that----

I'm thinking they must do the same thing..what is the procedure using the scantool?

              Hi Doug,
Procedure is pretty simple. go to
              Functional Tests.
Select Bypass EVAP Cold Soak Timer.
              Follow directions on screen.
              Scanner proceeds to Data screen.
View EVAP Cold Soak PID switch to "Yes".
              Road test the car.

...I'd post screen shots, but I've never been able to figure it out. It's a wonder that I can fix anything.

                Hi Joe

I wanted a Ford so that I could post screen by screen shots of it. Think I got one coming in Friday and I will post. Thanks for the step by step.

                    Hi Doug
Sorry I didn't put up the post yesterday! Some how the customers Ford turned into his Lexus!?!?! Guess I got to listen better when taking appointments . I "should" have one early in the week unless it turns to something less again. As soon as I get it I'll post all the screen shots.

I've got the screenshots, but I have no idea how to post them. I've tried and it didn't work. I must be doing something wrong. Is there a tutorial on this website on how to do it?

In the "reply" window that opens up, click on "manage attachments" and in the window that opens browse on your computer to the file you want to upload. After selecting the files click the "upload" button and wait until they are completely done uploading. Close the attachment window and you should be able to see the files in the reply window now as attachments. I think you can only upload 4 per post....

The file types and size limits are under the "browse" buttons in the attachment window. You should not have any problem loading screen shots, they are always in the acceptable size limit....

While Joe Rappa is having some ?Technical Difficulties? with his uploads he emailed me a Powerpoint file on Ford Evap systems, I took screen shots from that to post the Ford bypass cold soak function. I will have to do two posts as I can only put up 5 pictures per post. Doug is right were it does initialize code clearing, I am not sure if it does anything else but all I can say is I have tried it his way several times, sometimes it worked others it didn?t, S.O.?s way have always work for me. However the problem with Doug?s way could just be I?m doing something wrong
