i have a trany connect tdci with a failed pump, my mechanic was asking if he can reprogramme a secondhand one when fitted or will it have to go to a diesel specialist, cheers john.
Diesel pump failure

from memory and experience with other common rail pumps..it shouldnt need coding as all it does is supply the rail with fuel...there may be an adaption reset that can be performed ( if youre scantool supports it and should always be checked/performed if this option is available ). -
argg ok thanks for that, i was told that because the pump has packed up the injectors will be no good (i assume its these injectors that have to be reprogrammed then?)
im not sure what the adaption reset means, im not familiar with diesels, my solus is upto date with the 11.4 softwareComment

no golden rule for the injectors going faulty because the pump has...it may be worthwhile sending for test/overhaul if it runs poorly when the pump is fitted.
if they do they will need recoding otherwise just leave as it is.
adaption lets the ecu know that a new part has been fitted and allows for new tolerances to be learned to accomodate it..but as i say..not all ecu's support it.just worth a look and good practice to do so when a major component has been replaced/renewed.Comment

yep..just go for a straight swap
have a look in the fuel filter if you can to see if there is any metal particals in there..if its chocka then theres a small possibility that some could be in the injectors as fuel from the pump to rail isnt filtered..you will soon find out if there is when you get the vehicle started. have only had 1 where we have had to send injectors to be cleaned/overhauled...fingers crossedComment

when you unhook the fuel line from the pump to the common rail hold a paper towel under it. this will catch some fuel and any debri that has gone threw the pump. If you see any shinny pieces or debri you then know some has made its way to the injectors.Comment

Hi mark, just a quick update and further advice if u can please m8. Finally got round to looking at this connect, managed to rape a pump of a good runner focus, fitted and she wouldnt run grrrrr managed to get her to tickover and noticed the heater plugs symbol was flashing on and off (was told this is limp mode?)
Anyways i then decided to change all the injectors from the focus aswel and my mechanic reprogrammed these on the solus.
we still have an issue, the only code we have on the solus is PO660 injector control module malfuction, cant see any info for this code and no troubleshooter, any ideas mark on the next move?
cheers john.Comment

hi john..
p0660 on my autodata shows, intake manifold air control circuit solenoid..bank 1 open circuit. can you get into obd just to confirm the codes match with each other or it may give a bit more info on it.
what does it drive like even though the light is flashing?Comment

hi mark, thanks for getting back to me. Well firstly my mechanic decided to let me know he was leaving yesterday grrrr nowt like short notice ey.
Anyways long story. I was in the garage yesterday and noticed the intercooler radiator wasnt attached on top of the engine, which in turn has a sensor? which wasnt plugged up so ive put it back in its place. I tried to start the van after sitting the battery on charge for a few hours and now i think the starters playing up as it turns over real quick then beguns very sluggish and doesnt want to turn over grrrrrr so im stuck now until i can get the focus starter swapped over.
Ill have another go monday and report back m8.Comment

latest update
i got the starter swapped over and she struggled and wouldnt fire up, so i decided to use and nearture the engine with a little easy start and after a few minutes managed to get her to run again, but only at tickover and was running very sluggish like it was only firing on 3 cylinders?
i know diesel is getting to all injectors, i did crack each one to see if diesel was getting up. Now i wondering if theres a problem with the engine? or is there anything else i can do? im kinda stuck now.Comment

have you checked belt timing? might also be worth a compression check when you get time.
can you do another spill back test on the injectors?
after that it would be down to diag work and scoping the injector signals, also cam and crank signalsComment

youre last mechanic should have left some little bottles with tubes on them which connect to the return outlet on top of the injectors ( close off the return pipe with appropriate pliers ).
crank the engine for a while or let it tickover till the bottles get a decent amount of fuel in them....the levels in all 4 bottles should be within about 10 percent of each other...ones that are massively high or low need investigating. have a quick look on youtube for some vids on it,should be under common rail leak of test.
good luck.Comment
