Modis boots to a "Modis" screen and will not continue to tool menu

    Hi guys

Just as the title says....Borrowed my Modis to a Pal and got it back this way.
    Questions.....

Does the Modis Boot from the CF Card?
    Is the CF Card corrupt?
    Will upgrading solf this issue?

The following is a senario described on the Solus FAQ.

The SOLUS boots to a "SOLUS" screen and will not continue to tool menu.

This does not apply to the SOLUS PRO

This procedure requires a PC and a CompactFlash® Card Reader.

    Turn SOLUS off
    Disconnect power and remove batteries
Remove Master Storage Compact Flash (CF) card from slot one (1)
Insert the CF card into the CF card reader
In Windows Open “My Computer” to view the storage drives
Double-click on the SOLUS CF card. It will usually display as “SOLUS™”, “Removable Disk E”, or “Removable Disk F”
    Double-click on “Setcoldboot.bat”
A Black DOS screen will display once and disappear
Exit the SOLUS CF card back to “My Computer”
Right click on the SOLUS CF card and select “Eject”
Remove the CF card and insert back into the SOLUS CF slot #1
Connect the SOLUS to an A/C power adapter and power it up
Follow the on screen instructions to reload the Software.

My problem with this is How do I access my CF Card to try this.
If I put it in a card reader Vista Moans and says it must be formated.
Taking it out of the side slot and putting it in the topslot of the Modis the Modis complains ....no cf Card and shuts down.

Any Help will be apreciated ....I'm STUCK!!

    Thanks
    Deon

Windows 7 should read it as a drive. If it's asking to format, it makes me think it may be corrupt. A bad card could definitely cause your symptoms, but so could a few other things too, including a bad main board.

Call the Tech Line at 800-332-2526 to see what they have to say.

      Hi Joe

Thanks for the reply. Even though it does not sound good.
That is why I would like to know if Windows CE is on the card or on the main board. Its going to be an expensive exersize to upgrade only to find out the mainboard is gone.
If windows is on the board it makes sense that it boots up to the desktop screen........but then cant load the CF Card.

If you look at the desktop icons you see that there are only two icons showing that windows does no know what type they are. My brain says it has lost the driver to reconise them. The other normal desktop icons show up correctly meaning the normal windows instalation seems fine.

In my dos and early windows days you had to edit the config.sys and autoexe.bat files to directly boot into a start up program.

That leaves me with the question of how to access Windows to see if this is still intact.

      Thanks

Windows CE is in the main board in the Modis. You can access it if your careful, by hooking a mouse to the Modis and scrolling down to the bottom of the screen. The window start bar will then pop up. You should know where to go from there. Good luck.

          Anybody know a source?

          Thanks

I would call tech support, I had a similar problem, and the board had to be replaced.

How did you install the software on the card?

Where can you download the software to reinstall?
