"No taxation without representation." Thats the tax law. If a business or individual sells an item across state lines, and does not have an office, warehouse, store, (no representation) then they are not required to collect sales tax (for now). This law has come under fire from politicians for years, with them saying "Look how much commerce is done on the internet, and we can't get one red cent!" Since Snapon has dealers in almost every state, they have representation = so they charge sales tax at that states tax rate. Here it is 8.25%.

Two things in life...Death & Taxes!

        Eduardo,

Like all legit companies, Snap-on is in the focus of all states dept. of revenues of legit retailers. Being legit, they must charge taxes. To not do it would be a violation of law by Snap-on.

Individuals can get away with no tax, such as E-bay sellers and other online enterprises. Taxes are just a part of life.

Some of us view the internet as a nice place to start selling items that are free from the bonds of sales tax. Many online retailers often lure customers in by advertising that any purchases made will be free from sales tax. But some states require that whenever you purchase an item online that is not subject to sales tax. However, not every state does this. In the past two years, Amazon has been slapped with some huge tax bills. In many places, internet sales are not matter to sales tax, but that will soon become the exception, rather than the rule. A growing number of places are instituting or attempting to institute online sales taxes. Source for this article: More states pushing for online sales tax
