My tow behind air compressor!
This is my tow behind air compressor! Its a Gordon Smith model 90 antique.
It uses a Ford 302 as both the engine and the air compressor. It splits off 4 of the cylinders as the air compressor. The air compressor side uses a totally custom head that has ring valves for all 4 cylinders. Over each cylinder is a pnuematic piston that once the air compressor reaches a set pressure, pushes open the intake valve preventing it from compressing any more air.
It runs great! I use it for sandblasting, cutting, and for my 90LB jack hammer.
I need to do some body work on it and repaint it. It still uses the old points and condensor system. It probably has over 4000 hours on it because the hour meter quit working at 3600 (and thats not the original hour meter). Incase you were wondering, it puts out 100 PSI at about 100 CFM. Anyway heres some pics of the beast!
