    Blue Point MT599A Scope Meter

    Hi all,

Having been out of diagnostics for a while I recently purchased the Snap On Solus Pro to help bring me back into the world of diagnostics. Having used the scanner on a few vehicles I can see that the functions are limited in some ways and I require equipment which can do live testing at the sensor(s).

I have been looking at the Pico four channel scope and thought that I may invest in it, but have just seen the Blue Point MT599A Scope Meter. At present this scope appears to do live data and also gives references to comparisons for waveforms etc, has anyone got any experience with this scope, what do you think?

We have 4 PICO's at the school where I teach and they a big headache. Toyota is going to make them an essential tool soon. I was at their training center and neither I or the instructor could get it to work. I don't know about the Blue Point but you should look into a VantagePro. It would compliment your Solus very well and it uses the same battery.

      Vantage pro

      Hi SKIP

Thanks for your advice. I had heard of the Vantage pro but not given it much thought. I have just looked at it on the snap on forum to see its capabilities, but the forum video is playing up so can't get a clear understanding of it?

      Thanks for the info

      David

        Vantage Pro

Had a word with my Snap On dealer today over the phone, he advises me that the Vantage Pro is not supplied to the UK, is this correct?

Surely Snap On can load the European manufacturer spec/EOBD 9.4 software to it and then sell it to the UK?

          David,
I didn't see that you are in the UK. The Vantage Pro is not a scanner but a graphing multimeter/lab scope that has a library of component test information in it that is written by 6 of us here in San Jose California. We only have access to vehicles and information for the cars sold here. Some of them as you know are also sold there, but not all. It is a really great tool because it can save you a lot of time gathering information to test a component. We have already done it for you. Even without the vehicle specific coverage it is a very good meter/scope. But if you can't get one, I'm not sure it would be worth while ordering one from here and then having the only one over there.

            Vantage Pro

            Hi Skip,

Lets say that I did want one, which I do, but am worried about being able to use it on vehicles in the UK, when I plug it into the 16 PIn diagnostic socket, which i have been advised the leads are different over there, then there would be no communication with the vehicles, therefore, what would I then do?

If I had an ordinary scope then I could back probe the sensors, would I be able to do that with the Vantage Pro for the scope and DVOM?

            David

The V Pro does not plug into the car, it is a meter that will let you backprobe as you want. I found out that it is available in the UK and it has Euro information in it. Its a new product over there.

                Hi Skip

Could you advise me where to get details of how to purchase it as my local dealer says its not available over here in the UK?

                Thanks

I'll see what I can find out. O don't have a lot of contact with what goes on across the pond, but I'll get back to you.

Just like to add that I have been doing some research and I have found out through US Snap On passing over their UK suppliers that the Vantage Pro will be available February 2010 in UK

I did buy the Blue Point scope as a stop gap recently, but this might of been a bad decision The software is a floppy disc and the communication is via an RS232 port, which all new computers don't use because they are USB?

I need to talk to my dealer, it may have to be returned or may be OK as a stand alone scope providing the sample rates are quick enough to capture glitches?

Guess I may have bought old stock here

                        David

Have been advised that the MT599A floppy disc software can still be loaded to a modern computer via a external floppy drive which has a USB lead connection?

The MT599A can record scope/voltmeter reading among other data and then transfer it to your computer, just like the scanner using shop stream, so although a hand held scope maybe small, uploading data and graphs to a computer makes the info much easier to see. The scope also has a built in library of waveforms to use for comparison. Given the price of the scope and its functions and back probing ability to any circuit, it is really good value for money.
