3.5 Honda Odyssey misfire. (New Scope user)

    I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey 3.5L, with a misfire at idle.
    Had codes p0300, 301, 302, 303 and 305 in it.
Cleared the codes and ran it again. p0305 came back immediately. Figured I'd pull out the scope and play with it, since I want to learn more.

Here is the file, current ramp of all 6 coils at the fuse panel with a fused loop.
    Green is current ramp
yellow is just to identify cyl. #5

Does this look like shorted coil?? Something looks off on #5 to me.

Hey, I figured out how to use this shop stream thing. To view this file by Ryze, save it to local disc "C", then after opening Shop Stream open local disc "C", then click on this file and you can view the whole movie. The coil current ramp does seem to rise too fast. Where do you have your channel one lead at ? Ground not hooked up ? Doesn't seam right if you got it back probed to the coil control wire. I put a screen shot of your movie here for any one who can't view the movie.

Channel one was the coil control lead. I had the ground hooked up, but when I went to take the scope off the car, the ground lead was off. must have fallen off when i started the car. I was using it mostly to know which coil I was looking at, IF i found anything wrong

Ps. i decided to try this first, because I was reading on iATN that one bad coil can set multiple codes on these cars.

There are some people on this forum that are a lot better with a scope and ignition patterns than I am, but if I saw a current ramp like that on a coil, I would replace that coil. I am just happy that I finally figured out how to open on line files with Shop Stream, only took me three years.

          Thanks for the help!

I just learned how to set-up the scope, save a wave form to my USb drive, and use shopstream all in the same night. My learning curve is in high gear tonight!

I'm with greasybob. The sharp amperage rise indicates a shorted coil. I would have taken the recording on a shorter time base, this allows for more detail.

I have a few other wave forms I upload later tonight for you. I was playing around with times an what not

Hi Bob.Thanks for sharing the open files on line with Shop Stream. I like that way better than the way i was doing it before.Keep Smiling. Austin

Here is a waveform of just cylinder 5, nothing else. Amp clamp around the power wire @ the coil itself. 10ms.

i just realized that when i had both channels set up on the previous log, I must not have had the channel 2 set up properly as it is only showing half the amount of amps as this log.

I don't think you zeroed out the amp probe on this wave form. I was going to say last night that when you are using a second lead with your amp probe, a good ground is very important for that second lead or trigger. If not grounded, voltage from that lead will leak into the amp probe signal, especially true with high voltages from things like an inductive kick. I think this is because the grounds are stacked.

Good news is that the coil fixed the problem!!

here is an after wave form. Grounded right at the battery and didn't fall off. Now I see the difference there, quite a big difference in the trace.

Still don't understand why I am reading half the amps I was before. I might have to double check my generic amp clamp and see what the output is.
