    2004 Taurus rad fan controls

    Hi
    Ive never posted here before.

    Looking at a 2004 Taurus SE 3.0 vin 2(flex)
The cooling fans on the radiator never come on.

I have a Solus and it seems to work well, however,
it doesn't show rad fan status,
nor are ther bidirectional controls to run the fans
    I'm simply puzzled.

the two fans are controlled by four relays, and are wired very complex

in High Speed the two fans are wired parallel and the PCM activates
1-fan braking relay and 2-engine cooling fan relay

in Med Speed the two fans are wired parallel thru the fan resistor
and the PCM activates only the fan braking relay

in Low Speed the fans are wired in series and the PCM activates
1-fan braking relay, 2-engine cooling fan relay, and 3-HEDF and EDF relays

    WOW! What were they thinking?

Meanwhile, I would just like to activate the various speeds thru the PCM, enabling me to check out the relays and circuits.
Will the Solus not do this?
    Help

    Thanks in advance

You are correct that the test is not there, I am not sure about the Data PID yet. I will check later and see if it is in the factory tool and if it is I will forward the need for the test and PID to the developers.

    THANKS!
    Steve

factory pids for Taurus cooling fans

      Hi
Thanks for confirmation of missing data

Per factory fan troubleshoot procedure, (mitchells) the pids are LFCF MFCF and HFCF. I have also seen these abbreviated as LCF MCF and HCF. ----OOOPS I meant LFC MFC HFC!----

Of course, the procedure has you scan these values, then have the scan tool energize these, while testing for PCM signal at relays...
There is nothing useful there that doesn't require (their) scan tool...

Hey I used to work at SnapOn Diagnostics years ago... I thought that they emulated ALL factory scan tool capabilities. For instance, I helped reverse engineer the Mitsubishi MUT, and SnapOn scan tools have all their functions.

        more taurus fan details

        Hi
I just learned that the radiator fans both stopped working at the same time.
The car rear ended another and had many parts replaced, including radiator, both fans, A/C condenser. I have tested the fans. Both work fine. I have inspected the harness closely in the area of the accident. All wires are ok. not cut not shorted etc.
Still, I am thinking the accident had something to do with it.
The parts were put on and the car sat for some time before being driven and the overheat problem surfaced.

          wondering

I am wondering if my old "brick" will work in "STAR" mode to access the pids and the bi-directional tests.

Of course, the brick only updated to 2001 and the car is a 2004...

I Think if Snap On wants to keep it's customers from filling those software holes in with a New Chinese Scanner versus paying for updates to fill holes in earlier releases . Folk that purchase software good up to 2010 should get any holes that ever existed in their software up to 2010 filled in automatically like Microsoft fills in their OS security holes with updates by internet.
