    MT2500 Questions

I recently acquired an MT2500 V2.2 with programable cartridges however they only go to 2003 on Domestic and 2001 on Asian. I think if I have found the correct information the version of software on the cartridges is like 5.x

Anyway I dont have the manuals and thought maybe if I asked here since Snap On is outdating the unit someone could give me a definitive answer.

The software on the cartridges, how is that updated?

One posting on here makes it sound like only a Distributor can do it.

Another makes it sound like when the unit was being taken care of the updates were downloadable then the end user would install them.

So what is the situation about how the updates are installed on the unit?

Also does someone have any of these manuals for this unit in PDF format?

They used to be updated by having the cartridges flash programmed on Dealer Trucks.

Updates are no longer available for this scanner.

Not that I know of, but an awful lot of the Solus-Pro Manuals will work. The operation of that unit is pretty simple, so you may find that you don't need a manual once you spend a few minutes with it.
Here is a link to the Solus-Pro pdf:

So I take it that the only way to update the automobile year, make, model which is located on the programable cartridge was to have a snap on dealer do it.

There was no other way? Like when the tool was not obsoleted and it was supported they did not allow a user to down load say the data and flash the cartridge themselves?

Also what is the most recent up to date program used on the MT2500? I have seen units with up to version 7.2 but I have read on this site that there are indeed later versions than that.

Thanks and have a great day.

No. A dealer cannot do it. There is no way to have the MT2500 Cartridges updated. There is a small chance you could find a more current set of programmable cartridges on E-Bay or someplace similar, but be careful. Many of the ones sold there use tricky language to fool you into thinking they are current. The last update for the MT2500 was 7.2 or 7.4, if memory serves...

Out of curiosity, how did you get

out of me saying "Updates are no longer available for this scanner."?

Well my english when it comes to typing is not the best. What I had meant to say was, When this unit was still supported by Snap On, I take it that in order for the programable cartridges to receive updates, the only way was to have a snap on dealer do it. And when I say dealer I mean one of those people whom drive around in the snap on trucks and service the snap on equipment.

Now as to the version number I have heard about an 8.x but am unsure if it is a true version or someone just made it up. I have seen on ebay the 7.2 but nothing higher than that.

Like I said I am fairly new to this unit. Before this I had an OTC 4000E, this unit could only go as high as 1999 because it was not the enhanced version.

No problem. You are correct in what you said. Those cartridges came blank, and the only way they got software loaded on them was when a Dealer (the guys in the tool trucks) programmed them. There may have been a Version 8.2 or so, but not that I remember. Also, as you moved past version 7.2 some older coverage had to be eliminated to make room for the new stuff.

If you want some advice, I'd be cautious about putting too much money into an MT2500. I'd probably pick up a Micro Scan or something similar if I was an occasional scanner user.

For $400.00 it's probably cheaper than what you could find cartridges for, and it's current coverage. It doesn't do everything the MT2500 does though.
