Look on eBay for cells of the voltage needed, and find tagged ( easier to solder together ) in a current ( Amp/Hr ) rating suitable for your need.

That's all I do, waiting for some 6 Amp/Hr cells now for a Solus Pro battery rebuild
    aloha,

    Thanks for the information.

As close as I can tell...the OEM cells are around 1.7v, (1.7x7=11.9) and since there really aren't any markings on the cells, so I have no idea of the MH. The brand is Sanyo.

I've put the battery back together for the time being, so sorry, no pictures at this time.

However, I did take some rough measurements with a tape measure while I had the pack apart and found these results.

    2 5/8" long x 5/8" in diameter.
As stated, these were rough measurements using a tape measure.

I have seen some cells for the Solus pro on flea bay, or better that I should say that I have seen cells that others have said would work in a Solus pro on that site, but nothing that even comes close when looking for these Sanyo cells.
I have found 1.7v cells, but again, nothing that's even close in size. I'm finding it hard believing that these are special use cells, but it's sure looking that way.
Man... these people haven't missed a trick when protecting copyrights. It's a shame that there wasn't as much thought put into making a longer lasting product as was put into the copyright and software protection.

From what I can tell, the Solus pro cell is much different in shape (shorter & fatter) than the ones used in the Modis, and @ 1.5v, it's doubtful that the required 8 of the those cells would even fit into a Modis pack.

For the cost of those Solus cells, it might be worth buying a set and seeing if they'll work.
Please let me know if I'm mistaken about any of this.

    aloha

That Sh@t kind of pisses me off .Probably take a whole village of trainers to buy Chinese Doggy biscuits to teach an old dog to just stay loyal for a pat on the head as a new trick.

Sorry for dredging up an old thread, but has anyone else done this?

I see a lot of eBay/Amazon vendors selling the same stuff - 24 watt batteries, not 36 watt like the OE power supply/charger. With so many people (and many of them non-electrinic/battery specialists) selling the same stuff, I'm dubious of the quality of many of them. Any specific recommendations for manufacturers/vendors?

It's been 5 years this month since I had MTO rebuild the battery pack on my Modis Elite. It still works and keeps a charge.

For any one who is interested: For my snap on modis, the cells that make up the battery battery pack- "common" name is a "4/3 A". I measured mine at 17mm x 67mm. 17670 also appears to be another common name(makes sense)
NiMH battery at 1.2 volts. Battery pack only uses 7 for a whopping 8.4 volts.

                Thanks.

I usually rebuild my own batteries but I decided to send two of my three MODIS paks to MTO Battery in Pennsylvania.
Time will tell whether that was a good idea or not.
                They have a good reputation.

I plug the tool into the vehicles so the battery just needs keep the tool running through voltage sags, shutdowns, etc.

I already have several battery terminal clip on leads and cigar lighter plugs with Female terminal Deutsch DT plugs in my electrical diagnostics arsenal.

I bought a 6' pigtail with a 90° 2.5mm x 5.5mm DC barrel plug and terminated it with a 2 Male terminal Deutsch DT shroud.
This is the animal with one of my cigar lighter power socket plugs.

I have used Dantona NiCd industrial battery cells from Newark and Batteries + in some antique power tool and laptop battery paks.
Industrial flat top cells don't have the button on the + end.

Here's a link to Panasonic 4/3A NiMh industrial flat top battery cells at Mouser Electronics. I'd trust these well ahead of no-name cells on Ali Express, eBay, or Amazon.
