    Booting VP / CF card

    Hi all,

I'm living inside this thing trying to get a handle on all it can do. I've got a few questions:

First, I'm a bit confused on what is normal, and what isn't as far as when it is booting. I don't know anyone with a VP to compare it to, so I'm asking... The first thing I see when I turn it on is a message that says, "can't move \cf\ COLDBOOT.YES to \cf\ COLDBOO" and the rest of the image is off the screen.

This brings me to question 2: The VP hangs for a second with that text on the screen, then a window pops up saying, "To keep your tool settings and saved files insert your old master CompactFlash(R) card into the top CF card slot 2 now. Press Y to continue." Now my dealer got this VP from another dealer who was using it as a demo on his truck. I know this for two reasons: first, he told me, and second: there is a shop name entered in the SHOP INFO screen. When I first booted it on his truck, he said that whole CF window was normal, because I didn't have a CF2 card installed. Fair enough, right? So I bought a CF card, but that screen still comes up with every reboot.

This brings me to question 3: I know (or I think) that the VP is recognizing the CF2 card, because it will let me move screen shots and movies from the data management window. But after I move them, I cannot ever find them again.

So is some of this normal? Can anyone point me to where my files are being stored? I'm sure they're there, but I'm missing something while trying to take in all this other info.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate any help, because I'm sure there will be plenty more questions!

    Jeff

That is not normal. I just turned mine on and got no such screens, it just turned on. Those are prompts that come up when an update is installed. I think there is something goofy with your CF/build.

Thanks Skip. It seemed weird to me.
I just tried the system restore, and that failed. a warning came up saying to see my rep.

Ok, I took some pics of my VP while it is booting. My rep doesn't sell many diagnostic tools (he says it's because of his area). I need to have as many answers as I can before I start asking him questions. Besides the booting issue, is 11.4 the most current release? My Solus Ultra I got on the same day came with 12.4.
        Thanks for the help!

I would try having your dealer re-install the current update on your CF card. Then follow the install procedures for your VP to reload it in the tool. If that doesn't work, maybe someone else can chime in, or just call Tech Assistance at 800-332-2526.

              Skip, Joe,

My rep had me call Balco in California. They are shipping me a new CF card loaded with 12.4. They say that should cure all the problems.

              Thanks guys!
