VERUS Operation

I was using the VERUS the other day on battery power, fully charged when after scoping some circuits the VERUS of its own free will appeared to shut off, the screen went blank and then after a good few seconds it came back on. This has happened twice now and being new to VERUS with limited experience I am not sure if that is a fault or normal VERUS operation.

Can any advise please.

This is not normal. Before I called Tech Support I'd check the power settings and screen saver to make sure someone hasn't fooled with that. If all appears good there, call Tech Support to see what they say.

Perhaps you've picked up a used unit that was sold to someone else for this very reason-??
If you got it from your equipment dealer, I'd be having him look into getting things resolved.

When it comes back on, is it after plugging it in, or still on the same charge level as before it shut off? If it will only come back after plugging in, suspect the battery. I've replaced mine twice already and now another one is bad. Only lasts maybe an hour. And this one I was careful not to overcharge. I would run it low before plugging back in every time.

No it only happened twice, both times on battery power, the battery was fully charged. I asked my dealer on Tuesday but he said he was not aware of the problem. He did advise he would lend me another VERUS if I wanted, but another experience on the same vehicle caused me to think whether the VERUS was being affected by the secondary ignition system, the reason for that is that my volt meter I placed accidentally too close to the secondary ignition system components and that digital meter also went blank momentarily and then came back, so at the moment I'm leaning towards the experience being ignition interference that caused it.

Switching off

This would seem to me, having been a radio, tv technician in a previous life, that if ignition interference caused the shutdown, then something has got inadequate internal shielding which is allowing the interference to interfere with correct and proper operation which is a design flaw that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer, i.e. Snap On.
Sad but true I guess.

Thinking further, this maybe a good thing, ( thinking that is ) domestic electronic equipment has to NOT create interference which can be transmitted down through the power supply ( ac supply line ) and also HAS to accept any and all interference that passes down the supply to the item in question.
Vehicle manufacturers, in my opinion, skimp on suppression as adding suppression and interference reducing equipment, would reduce their profit, and that is why they push us to keep purchasing vehicles with the ' latest important feature/s ' which are both complex to resolve and time wasting to repair.

EMI or RFI

My new Verus Edge does the same. It will shut down if exposed to EMI. I work on lots of older stuff including tractors with point type ignition. Most older tractors don't use shielded plug wires and therefore emit lots of EMI. I tried to use the Verus to get ignition patterns, but to no avail. I thought at first the problem was the M4 scope, but I've had the Verus in my hand, not hooked to anything, walked up to the tractor (tractor running of course), got about two feet away from the ignition system and the screen got wonky, speaker got static and it shut down. As expensive as these units are, one would think that they would be properly shielded from external interference.

You'll need to put the spark plug back in cylinder 4 LOL to get the current to rise like the others

On a different note, at least I reasonably happy that the VERUS is not faulty, the dealer didn't know anything, but you guys having similar problems seems to let mine off the hook
