Now, im expecting a full list of views on this one
.
FORD FOCUS - 2004 - 2.0 16v dohc - zetec.
Sinlge coil pack with 4 leads to each plug - MISFIRING
RAC was 1st called out, said fault was coil pack, customer replaced.
I went to it, eobd read it & manufacture read it - p0301 ( we all no what this is), went back following night:
removed leads- carried out spark test - good
removed plugs - compression check
, ford start their threads low down in the hole, so had to forcably hold gauge in hole, cranked - NO COMPRESSION no 1, spin over for 20 sec, tried 2,3&4, got compression - blew my tool out, retried NO 1, no compression - so misife no 1 cylinder is correct. I advise on head investigation possible removal.
Some on has been out after me and said, if i set my machine up right it should have read p2135 and NOT p0301
.
Seemingly this is a common known problem, ford garages charge for head work at ££££££££ and simply replace the throttle body and she's as good as new, now there's a lot of profit in that job wouldnt you say ?.
This car is throttle cable and NOT FLY BY WIRE, the throttle body is a simple plastic body screwed via 4 screws onto a plastic inlet manifold and houses a simply butterfly to control ammount of air, forgive me for being thick, back to basics, this body controls the air into the 4 branch plastic manifold, AND THIS IS CAUSING THE MISFIRE on cylinders 1 & 2 (been out tonight and it now shows p0302 aswell).
This other person who has been out to car removed rocker cover, said valves open and close correct - and not sticking, checked for wet staining and plumes of smoke out of exhaust - none, oil level seems ok.
So no compression on NO 1 cylinder - throttle body ? - like to know what your views are people, i find it hard to believe a throttle body can be the cause of no compression and naughty
if ford hide this sympton under code p0301.
Right i wearing a wet suit an hard hat ready for all insults and rotten veg throwing
