1999 ranger 3.0 coming in tomorrow. Charging 16 to 18 volts. Owner says this is alternator number 6! I only had time today to confirm charging voltage and load tested battery. I looked at diagram just long enough to see internal regulator that is not computer controlled. Anyone have any direction on these. I doubt this poor guy got 6 bad alternators.

Wouldn't surprise ME if it got a whack of junk alternators. BTDT.
Rebuilders think a regulator is a regulator is a regulator.
Fixed several simply by putting a FORD regulator in 'em-!!
Voltage drop the B+ feeds and as Bob says, voltage drop the ground circuits too. Alternator case, to bracket, to head or block, then cables back to the battery.
If feeds and grounds test good and it's an internal regulator, put a FORD regulator in it.Comment

Poor connection in large bulk connector on top of intake. Yellow with white trace, voltage sensing circuit. The heads had been removed a few months back. Voltage drop found it, jumper wire confirmed it, cleaning fixed it.Comment
