Any Audi/VW experience???

A friend took possession of a 2006 Audi A8 Sport. When you Auto ID it ask which engine. BFM or BGK?

Any one have an Idea on how you tell the difference between the two? There is nothing under hood or on the body vin tag that indicates which engine the vehicle has. They both use the same 5th Digit of L in the Vin code.

Some one stated to me it may have to do with where the vehicle was produced.

I have been unable to locate any thing that tells the difference.

The engine number (engine code and serial number) are stamped on the left side of the cylinder block. According to Alldata, you have a BGK.

Apparently the two designations are for California vs 49-State emissions designs. (not that anything VW publishes can be believed)

I wasn't Able to find anything under hood for the emissions standard Nor if there was an alternate place where this car was produced.

I went with the BGK when Id'ing the Audi but wasn't sure if it would be missing anything or have trouble with the scanning portion such as false codes.

I also had a Salvage Truck come through at the same time that was Re-bodied at some point. What a nightmare... The Systems are different from the year the truck is registered as according to the Vin Vs. The year all the components are from. If you don't ID it correctly, You can't communicate with the systems or get the correct codes.

Open up the trunk and where the spare is located there will be a
white sticker with all the info for that car. This applies to all VAG vehicles
