200k Jeep Compass comes in with a CVT trans shuddering and jumping. It has the dipstick tube with a rubber plug on top, and no dipstick to check the level. I wipe off the engine oil dipstick and use that to at least get an idea if the fluid is burnt, surprised it didn't smell burnt. Dipstick level checker is now considered a Chrysler special tool 9336 , LOL . Screw it I add a quart of CVT fluid per customer request, drove it around the block and tell the customer it didn't help, however it has a P0571 code for the brake switch, and who know how a CVTtrans is going to act if the ECM tells the TCM the brake is applied if it isn't.
I get a new brake switch and put it in and the scanner now shows the brake switch 1 and switch 2 inputs correctly but I cannot clear the P0571code. I decide to do the pinpoint tests and check the diagram and determine The circuit 202 ignition power feed from the integrated power module is missing at pin 3 (pink/grey wire ) of brake switch connector, but it's ok at the ECM pin from S006 but not getting to s306 behind left kick panel. I open up the harness above the radiator fan and find s006 and all checks ok there. I got to find a way to run a wire from s006 at radiator fan area of engine comp to S306, but no rubber grommet on fire wall to punch a small hole for a wire. I pull the LF wheel and the wheel well splash shield off and see the harness ran along the body under the fender and it enters the inside of the vehicle behind the upper rear of the LF fender, and low and behold I see a couple corroded wires I repaired and fixed the hard P0571 code in ECM , but it didn't fix anything with the bad trans and P0730 and P0777.
