No Wit, this isn't about a secure numerical sequence you need to enter your favorite watering hole. Why did GM remove the bar code identifier below their VINs at the base of the windshield, around 2009? I have an app on my phone that makes it easy to retrieve the VIN. It made starting work orders and ordering parts easy. One less step to screw up transferring 17 characters over to paper.

I think you could just ask On Star to display vehicle service and option code information , and take a snap shot with your phone, upload the image by bluetooth to the parts department and text your parts guy , "There's no excuses for F'N up my parts order now .
