I would like a test tool to measure the true airflow value so that I can compare it to readings on the Verus. The tool should have the same parameters as the verus i.e. kg/h...gms/sec. This way we would be able to determine a bad maf sensor and also get a better idea if there is a leak on the intake system.
You have to admit, this is one hell of a good idea, therefore I expect a free one when available.

Exactly what are you having trouble with?
If you use data stream on your scantool, you will usually have a parameter for mas (mass airflow sensor). Considering this is a common fault on many motors, an independent reference (accurate) would be a boon to good diagnostics. This can be acheived by simply using a coned flow device over the intake to correctly monitor the true value. This can then be used to verify if the ecu is receiving the correct data from the vehicle's maf sensor.

I Use E-scan. Not Free!! But I've Been Able To Find Many Bad Maf Sensors And Drivability Issues With No Dtc's Being Set. Piad For It Self Very Quickly. I Love It!! Best Of All I Use The Verus To Run The Software And Compare Using The Scope, Only Good Thing About The Verus? I Know There Are Many Volumetric Efficiency Testing Software For Free Out There, But I Really Recommend E-scan For Ease Of Use.

this would be an interesting tool, but seems redundant. kind of like the o2 sensor tester. not a bad tool, but you can do just as good, if not better, with a good scope or gmm (re: vantage).
as far as maf goes, watching fuel trims at idle and higher speed can give you good info. i also like to use a volumetric calculator (free from many sites including www.autoservicetech.com). this isn't quite as easy as the ease tool (www.obd2.com), but still gets the job done. also, graphing the maf volts with your scantool (or scope if you prefer) can give you a good idea if you need a new maf or just need to clean it.

I think what you need is a course in Thermofluids/Thermodynamics Then you could look at BERNOULLI EQUATIONS and methods of how to build yourself a flowmeter, such devices as Pitot Static Tubes, turbine meters or rotameters are to name a few, or you could just buy an electronic version and tap into the airflow of the inlet track which will quite easily give you a accurate second reading to compare to the snap on equipment

I am in agreement with This Statement. The Escan is a great Program for finding Bad MAF sensors even with no DTC set. Escan has other Great Features as well.

Yeah, I'm gonna stick with lab scopes and scanners and the real old way's of trouble shooting, but hey, because of this thread I was introduced to Escan and that really is cool.
