I want my tool to emulate all factory tools.

I know that is asking for the world but for the amount of money I have in my verus, It should at the very least do what the big 3's scan tools can do.

your joking right? remember the factory tools can test every system for the brand of car they were designed for.

When the vehicle service manual tells us to perform function A, then monitor pid B, check for/look at result C.....pretty much what a scan tool HAS to be able to do. If it doesn't, it's not complete & accurate information.

Your are assuming that the factory service manuals are correct and that isn't always the case.

What can you do with the big 3 that you can't do with the S.O. scanner.

            You've been busy today Jay.

The ability to unlock GM radios would be a good start, program Chrysler key FOBs,there are still numerous GMLAN modules that don't communicate with the Snap On software. Hang around and I'll hunt up some VINs and a list tonight. Ford is actually covered very well except for programming PATs and put the VIN into the air bag modules on newer models. Thanks for your interest.

                Hi Jay,
                Heres some i've had lately:

Install IPC or front door lock modules: 2004- Envoy, Rainier, Trailblazer
Install IPC 99- GM Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban
Install SJB (smart junction box) 05 Mustang 1ZVFT80N555131024.

All PMI i know, but these modules require ability of tool to "take, hold and return data" to new module once installed i believe. Not quite a re-flash. That would be cool.

                Always a pleasure,
                Neil

                  Hi Neal,

I never suck the info from the old module because if the old module is messed up there is a chance you sucked it into the new one.

I install new modules and install flash,or as built data as a new module.

That's a very Good point!!! I never really thought about it before. Thanks for pointing that out.

If there is missing or corrupt data you would not want to chance ruining a new module.

Man I've been tryin to "as-built" this friggin Mustang for 3 days now (currently waiting for Ford to respond back via e-mail). If the module is not currupt, seems to me the process is WAY easier on OEM tool (i've used Tech2, NGS, and WDS(Mazda).

                        Something shiny, something new

How about something that NO other tool can do (except Ford IDS). Module installation on aforementioned Mustang SJB using medium speed CAN network. Seems my Modis can operate on the MsCAN net. Why not "lift" data to card or internal memory for install of new module or even better, allow lines of data to be "as-built" in. Dont leave out the Modis guys or i'll never buy another S.O. tool again.

I will add it to the list.

you can get a tech 2 and WDS combo off ebay for less than 1000 a pair updated to 2010. just bought a WDS last week for 360 bucks with the dock. they are a dime a dozen.

If I'm reading you right, you let the tool search for as built and it hasnt responded yet. Im thinking the screen you're at you need to click the check (ok) and let the tool say "the data wasnt on the network", and let it go onto Fords site. Then it'll pull it down in a couple secs. The first couple I did I waited like you, but found its scanning the hard drive, local network and DVD for the data. Hitting the check mark sends FMP out to ford website and downloads the info off their server, then uploads it to the module in question.

Thats what I have found anyway, again, if I am reading your comment correctly. I have only done a few dozen, which may pale to you, so maybe I am wrong, or reading it wrong.
