    Snap On politics

Just wondering if anyone has had the experience I have had. I have not purchased Snap On tools since April 2011. I was purchasing from my old dealer of 27 years as I the current dealer at my newer job I do not wish to do business with for personal reasons. I was never rude to the man just do not wish to spend my money with him. Well the current dealer complained and made false accusations and the Snap On dealer manager called me warning me not to buy Snap On tools from other than the dealer where I work this is the law. I am not allowed to purchase Snap On tools from my old dealer at my friends auto repair shop where my old dealers route is. I was also warned not to visit my friends shop. If Snap On finds out that I bought from my old dealer he will get in severe trouble. I find this unrealistic and have started a complaint with the attorney general of Illinois. How can someone be told who to visit, who to buy tools from. Having spent over 100k in tools with Snap On and be treated like this is very dissappointing. Maybe someone at Snap On will read this and explain to corporate why sales are down as I have now been spending my money with Matco.

That is silly, who is it to tell you where you can spend YOUR OWN money? I know dealers can't step into other territories, but you going somewhere else is up to you! That is very stupid politics! Hope you work thinks out!

If I were you, I'd get this guy's name and bring this to the attention of his superiors. he needs to be fired, no ifs ands or buts about it. You will be doing yourself, other customers, other dealers, and even the Snap On corporation a big favor by doing so.

He's lying to you. It's your right as an American citizen to do business with whomever you please. These kind of people need to be put in their place - they're a disgrace to our country.

The franchisees have territories and one cannot cross over into the other or sell to someone in another territory it’s in the agreement that they all sign and they can get there hand slapped for doing it. That could be what he meant by it’s the law. Wheel is correct Snap-on cannot prevent you from going to another shop. As a Technician you find workarounds for many situations I’m sure you can do the same here.

With reference to crossing patches, i will be doing so here (uk), i have a broken snap on hand tool that requires replacing - not sure how to but look like it will have to be my neighbouring dealer, also, im looking at upgradin to 11.4 software, but again, this will have to come from another patch.

My first problem is to source the promotion literature as SO HO can not supply, dont understand why though.

If I'm in Timbuktoo, and there's a SnapOn truck in the local McDonalds parking lot when I pull in, THERE IS NO LAW that says I can't knock on his door, climb onto his truck and purchase anything he may have for sale on the truck.
It may be in the DEALERS' franchise agreements that THEY don't go into another territory, but you or me or anyone else can go into their territory and purchase whatever, from whomever we want to.
I agree, the HEAVY HANDED response and barefaced LIE that it's against the law perpetrator should have his feet held to the fire for that statement-!!!

              Andy,
If you don't have a dealer coming by to service your shop then I would go to the nearest one that will meet my needs.

I have te exact same situation as you do. I dont care for my local sales rep that services me so i will go and catch up with the truck in another teritory and do business on turf.

                  Snap On Politics

I am well aware of a dealers geographic area, as I was approached 2 times for a diagnostic salesman and a mobile tool salesman by Snap On. I never once encroached on his area or brought my co- workers into his truck. I always acted as a perfect gentleman. What is really frustrating is that we as technicians have more than enough problems trying to repair cars. We try to do our best to buy tools in a cash strapped and uncertain economy then you have the added grief of a salesman dictating where you have to spend your money. Thankfully I have not broken a tool since April. Next spring I will need to purchase a transmission flush machine and a coolant flush machine Matco is going to get the sale.

Although I understand from the dealers stand point and from Snap On stand point, some people are not very personable and you should not be forced to Deal with some one your not comfortable with. I will be the first person to admit that I'm picky about who Spend my money with.

If your just a Used car salesmen and can't Understand my needs Then I am probally not gonna buy from you. I had a few Snap on dealers that I refuesed to deal with because I just got poor service. Some of My dealers took 6 months or more before we devloped a repore were I started buy things I needed.

With Snap on being one of the Best hand tools out there. There also one of the most over sold tools, so there is plenty of used stuff out there. I understand when a dealer doesn't have something but I have seen dealers refuse to warranty things because the customer didn't buy a tool from that dealer or hasn't spent any money with him.

Any way what you do in your own time is your buissness. Snap On can not stop or prevent you from going to a freinds shop. As long as there is not a paper trail or big ticket items Or serialized Items showing up at your shop that was sold through another dealer. There is not much any one can do. There is new Snap on product being sold on Ebay everyday. Some dealers have been caught, while others have not yet. Large ticket items and things with serial numbers are a dead give away. Also Don't talk about it with co workers or neighbors that deal with the same dealer.

I've heard you can call snap-on and complain about a dealer, but does this actually do anything? My dealer is a very nice guy and all but sometime it just takes too long for him to get anything in. The last guy that the new guy replaced was kinda sketchy but it only take him about a week to order anything.
