    charging sebring

04 sebring 2.7L alternator will no charge battery.I have changed the battery the alternator and pcm to no avail...I know I should test but I had the parts available from another car so it was no biggie.except the pcm I had it programmed for that car..I looked at the wiring schematics and seen that the pcm controls the regulation through the evr.I dont knw what the problem is All I see is the battery going lower and lower.it dont seem to charge the battery...thanks in advance...

Start your testing procedure by going to your shop information system and reading the "how it works" section for your charging system. This should lead you to a well planned out trail of testing. A wiring diagram will show you how the system works too. You need battery voltage at the B+ terminal on the generator, the PCM (voltage regulator) grounds the field. What is the voltage at the field terminal on the generator?

        Won't charge

There are 2 different charging systems on 04 sebrings. Need to know if the PCM has 2 connectors (SBEC Controller) or 4 connectors (NGC Controller). Then i can help you. Also the alternators are different, but look alike.

Sorry so late. On SBEC controllers at the 2 wire connector at the alternator you should have an OR/DG wire and a DG wire. The OR/DG wire should always have battery power as long as the car is running. (12volts) The DG wire is the field circuit. (ASD relay powers the OR/DG wire through fuse #25 (20amp) in PDC.) The SBEC C1 connector pin#8 DG wire is the field driver. With a 12 volt test light connected to ground car running you should have voltage all the time at the OR/DG wire. (Fully charged battery) With test light connected to B+ the light should blink on off at the DG wire. (Field driver) Hope this helps.

ok fully charged battery I get 11.50v on dr/or wire then it will cut out.gr wire dont flicker and output of alternator is nothing.basically the alternator is not activating to charge..I would think it is the pcm but I have changed that already. possible alternator?
