Ive read about the programmer but no one in my area can tell me anything about it. Price, how to get one, what vehicles it covers, etc. Id like to try one. If anyone out there has one let me know what you think and where I can get one!

The Snap-On one mainly. Ive looked at others but the support seems to be lacking. We looked at a Cardone unit but when I had some questions I couldnt get a hold of the rep. Snap-on has been really good with support for the scan tool and the MODIS. If my rep cant answer my questions he will put me in touch with someone who can.Comment

I would not go with the first generation pass thru, but the new one (Pass Thru Pro II) is great. Same one used by several of the factories. The limitations of the tool is what is available on the OEM sites. Approx. cost of the Pass Thru Pro II is $1,600.00. Depending on the manufacturer site, can be subscription based, or pay per use,(per download) or per day.Comment

I have the first-generation Pass-Thru Pro, and while I haven't had issues with it yet, I'm sure support will be nil if and when I do. I am considering an upgrade.
My advice to anyone considering purchasing a J-2534 tool is to go to each OEM's website and research the requirements for the makes you intend to program. Some OE's support only emissions-related module programming, some allow many other modules to be programmed with J-2534. Know what is required of each OEM before you commit to a purchase.
Another great source of info for me was a video from AVI done by John Thornton. John goes into pretty deep detail about several tools, most OEM's, and the process itself. IMO, it was well worth the purchase price.
I'll be glad to answer any questions I can, but research done by the purchaser before the purchase will prove invaluable.Comment

Did you check out this link: http://diagnostics.snapon.com/passthrupro
Also check out the manufacturer's link on the same page to determine if it will cost effective for you depending on the vehicles you plan to work with (subscriptions $). Also there is a wealth of information available at www.nastf.org . As far as training and support I think the setup and use of the Pass Thru Pro II interface that you can purchase from your Snap-on dealer is pretty straight forward, provided you read the instruction manual. Where it gets a bit trickier is when you download and use the manufacturer's software applications as they all are very different and require attention to details and instructions. Also don't forget - You must have a reliable and constant internet connection, and a stable vehicle power supply is recommended by the OEMs, and is critical to protect vehicle ECU during programming. The Snap-on EECS306BKR D-TAC Plus and the Snap-on EEBC500 Battery Charger Plus are both perfectly suited to this purpose. Both have an automatic power supply feature designed specifically for vehicle reprogramming. HTHComment
