Problem scanning '05 Dodge Sprinter Diesel

Vehicle has OBD 2 port only. After VIN entry, Solus Pro says to plug into OBD2 with k25 key. Then after selecting engine management mode it wants me to plug dl-16 adaptor in with s-17 key. What am I missing?

Sprinters , I love to hate them L.O.L

The K25 is a basic Chrysler or Dodge key, 02 to 06 Sprinters are somewhat a Dodge L.O.L and somewhat a Mercedes, Cry like crazy, You do need the DL-16 adaptor in at the OBD connector and S17 card , You use DL16 and S17 instead of the OBD2 connector and K25 Key so remove those from your scanner and insert the others, The sprinter kit from Snap On has the correct adapters for 2002 to 2006, They were extra for my SOLUIS and VERUS although the VERUS uses the K25 key and standard OBD adapter for 07-08 Sprinters ... but they have a few bug's at the moment . Does the DL-16 look like or plug into the OBD2 port? Because that's the only port on the truck.
Uh, nevermind. I reread your post and paid more attention this time. Thanks for the info!

The DL-16 plugs into the OBD connector and the S17 card plugs into the
        DL-16 along with your scan-tool....
and yes that is the only port, So now that you have it hooked up what code are you chasing ?

While waiting for the Sprinter kit to show up, I was able to pull some codes using generic OBD mode. 2 I got refer to IAT and MAF or their equivalent. I'm into this thing for an engine 'knock'. Owner assumes it's a rod or main, but I don't think so. Has excessive diesel smoke, so I'm leaning towards injector.

I don't have much to add to this other than a friend is a chrysler mechanic and he has told me about these trucks before. He said they had one with the worst knock he ever heard and they were about ready to order and engine for it but decided to double check the injectors and one or more was bad and that was all it was. Since that one they have had a ton more just like it. So I would rec checking into the injectors a little more.

            Good Luck

Finally got the Sprinter kit and was able to scan this thing and, well, I'm not impressed. First I pulled a total of 12 codes, 6 of which are not in TroubleShooter. The codes I got are as follows:
P1482 = Glow plug module timer
P2135 = Glow plug #3 short to voltage
P2136 = Glow plug #4 short to voltage
P2068 = Mass air flow sensor fault
P2013* = Outside air temp sensor fault
P2672 = Intake air temp plausibility fault
              P2088* = IAT ratio low
P2817* = Engine off timer fault
              P2021* = Low rail pressure
P2051* = Max rail pressure exceeded
              P2017 = Low rail pressure
P2047* = Max rail pressure exceeded

              * denotes codes not in Troubleshooter

Second, there is no means of clearing codes that I could find.
Third, no functional tests. When I go into Functional Tests all it gives me is info on the vehicle firmware and software.
My Solus Pro has the 8.4 bundle currently (screen says 8.2 though). Are these some of the glitches I've been hearing about or is this typical of scanning the Sprinter? Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

P.S. That's some code list, huh?
              Thanks, Russ

Since you have version 8.4 you should also have access to Ask A Tech in Shopstream. In it you can get many of the troubleshooter tips before they are released in a software bundle. (Shameless plug inserted)There is a tip for rough idle on your Sprinter which also talks about a loud knocking sound. There is a problem with injectors and carbon build up causing the symptom as previously mentioned.

                Title ROUGH IDLE
                Category * SYMPTOM TIPS
                Information Type ENGINE

                Certified Tip Content
                Complaint:
Rough idle, loud exhaust leak or knocking sound while running,
                Cause:
                Carbon build up around injectors
                Corrective Action:
Remove valve cover, inspect for carbon build up around injectors and one or more injector lifting out of bore stretching hold down bolt.
You will need to replace affected injector and hold down bolt.
May have lack of power or rough idle.

Thanks Skip, that helps a lot. I downloaded ShopStream but never tried it yet. Something to do this weekend! So I take it this is all I can expect out of the 8.4 bundle?

                    Success!

Found my problem, failed 8.4 upgrade. I was still on 8.2 until my dealer reinstalled it today. Much better support now, now for 9.2...
Thanks you guys for all of your input!
