I haven't played with that new of a ford yet but you want to go into generic functions then mode 6. You need to know what test # to run, older fords are 51 or 53. Check with mitchell or alldata as I think they explain which test # and what it exactly is.
Mode 6 is extremely handy for those instances. Good luck

Not sure if you have ever used mode 6 but it is far eaiser that using a vantage.
Simply look up test # and look for the cyl(s) that show a value other than 0 and you have found your miss.
Vantage you have to drag out testers etc to hook up to the vehicle and test each individually, far more difficult.
Both are very do able but mode 6 is the fastest by far

If you get to mode 6,I think it's 6. You will see that it shows data min and max readings. If you look at the next line you will see a value reading, this is where you see which cylinder is misfiring. Any number other than 0 means the PCM has seen a misfire for that cylinder. Look at all 8 cylinders to see which is the culprit.

Thanks for the feed back iam still stuggling finding misses on most fords.Today i spent hours on a 2004 lincoln 4.6 same problem car has an intermiitant miss ,i feel it the customer feels it and the scanner will tell me that it is missing but wont idenify what cylinder or cylinders are missing.I tuned it up and bought one coil i test drove the car 8 times swiching coils every time and couldnt resolve it.It must have 2 bad coils probably on opposite sides.GOTTA BE A BETTER WAY.i will try the mode 6 stuff i have been messing with mode 6 all day not hepfull i dont know what to look for i will try looking at the value readings tomorrow and see if they make sense.HELP!!!!!Comment

it may be faster and easier but not as RELIABLE as using a scope; thats what you should be looking for RELIABILITY. use mode 6 to confirm that you fixed the problem not find it. what if you have more than one cylinder missing? Not sure if you have ever used mode 6 but it is far eaiser that using a vantage.

If you have more then one cylinder mis-firing it will show up on those cylinders CID.
Example
TID $53 CID$01 - 0
TID $53 CID$02 - 739
TID $53 CID$03 - 529
TID $53 CID$04 - 0
This would be mis-fires on cylinders 2 & 3. Not enoungh to set a code as it is no where near a MAX reading, however mis-fires would be present. At this time there may be some software issues as far as counts being present with no mis-fires. (see some other posts on this) However if you do have mis-fires and clear codes (even with none present) to reset count to 0 and road testing show a increasing count to me that is reliable. Also if I am reading correctly to you Mode 6 is not that reliable, then how could you use something unreliable to confirm anything?
