    2004 Astro 4.3

I am working on this van which came in with a bad distributor/cap/rotor/wires. It would and will not start. The drive gear of the distributor that came out was severly worn on one side. Installed a distributor out of a running engine with a new crank position sensor and still will not start. We have compression/spark and fuel. It wants to but will not fire up. Any way to relearn the crankshaft position sensor without starting the vehicle??

The vehicle should start without doing a crank relearn. Doulbe check and make sure you have the distributor in correctly.

What's your fuel pressure. There's no such thing as "close enough" on that engine.

fuel pressure must be prefect.u can take a good frame mounted fuel pump from a 1988? ford van, will pump all the pressure that all cars and trunks will need to run, make a tester pump, used a gal.or more jug,,some gas, put the inlet side of tester pump hose in the fuel jug. take the fuel return line from the van loose and reroute to jug also, now don,t make a bomb,,,, make long pump tester hoses and voltage leads.. kept gas jug and home made tester pump away from car if things go bad,, this will let u know if u have a weak fuel pump

          Hi bobby

Nothing is perfect lol, fuel pressure in a fuel system must have a fuel pressure regulator, which will obviously regulate the pressure to the manufacturer requirements +- a tolerance

fuel pressure is important, must be at least 60 psi while cranking but 62 is the norm at KOEO. when running pressure will drop about 10 psi depending on manifold vacuum. These vehicles use GM CSMFI system, most older cal emissions certified had problems with poppet valves sticking closed. newer vehicles were converted to MFI. poppets valves were replaced with multech injectors. if you have lower than normal fuel pressure, it wont start due to insuficient pressure to open the poppet valves. So pressure is very important.
