U.S. Modis not upgradeable to international

    Hi

A Family member worked in the states for about a year as a tech . When returning to South Africa he brought most of his Hi Tech equipment with him. Well included is a almost new Modis with 8.4 US Domestic and Asian installed.

The problem we have now is that Snap on Africa says because it is a U.S. Modis it cannot be upgraded to the New 9.4 International including European software without changing some of the internal Hardware on the Modis itself.
All this at a price of a new Solus, and then offering to sell me one.

Now ......Looking closely when starting up the Modis , it looks like a normal PC booting up and then running the Modis software.???????

Why cant you just upgrade the software.

Anybody had this scenario before. Looks like if I wont be able to upgrade the Modis will be gathering dust on the shelf proofing to be useless to me.

    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

I recommend you call Tech Assistance for verification on that. I don't know that's the case or not, but I'd still check.

        Hi
Maybe I must just take a chance and do the upgrade.
Can anyone please explain the upgrade process.
Do you just simply take the new CF Card and pop it in the CF slot under the left grip or is it not that simple.
        Any advice please!

        Thanks

There are 4 versions of Snapon softwares in the world:
                1. US domestic (all USA market vehicles),
                2. European (all Euro market vehicles LHD, RHD (no US-euro)),
                3. Australian (Australian domestic)
                4. International (includes US domestic, Euro domestic and Australian domestic)
All 4 versions are made by Snapon and sold by other companies like Sun-Diagnostics.
Most of the Snapon diagnostic tools in Europe are brought from USA running local International or European Domestic updates.
To get the real answer for your case, call the Snapon diagnostic center located in Netherlands. You can find their contact information thru Snapon International website.
The update process is the one and only for all 4 versions of CF cards.
Remove yours from the side of your Modis (unit is off).
Insert the new one (update) and press start button. If you need all your settings and files to be transfered to the new update CF card, just insert your old CF into the top slot of your Modis. In other case just press "yes" without the card inserted.
At the end of the process your Modis will display the main menu ready for work.

P.S As your Modis is running 8.4 US, I'm pretty sure you will not have any troubles updating to the International.
International bundle does not carry any troubleshooter information and scope sensor test data, just the scanner software.

                  Hi Vasau

Thanks for your advise...Just what I needed to hear.

One last question. Will it be possible to switch between the two cards. I am still a novice , and need to browse through the tutorials and sample files to get hints and to bring myself up to standard. I do realize that there are no trouble shooting on the European Vehicle's.
I've heard of guys bricking there machines by fiddling to much with the CF Cards.
What will happen if you boot up without a card in the side slot?
Thanks again for your help and information.

                  Deon

Your very welcome! I know what is it being alone with the situation, same like I was when I got my first Modis from USA.
I have never tried that with newer updates (since 8.2). Last time I did that with 7.4 bundle. I think it will work as long as a glitch happens.
You can't brick your machine playing with the files on the master CF card.
The only thing could happen is that the CF card itself might need to be reloaded at Snap-on.
You wouldn't be able to boot your Modis without the Master CF card. Try it! You will get the "insert Master CF card" message.
Never remove the Master CF card while your Modis is running. Here, you have a real chance to brick your machine.

I have made similar enquries with regards the Vantage Pro, I was advised that updating the Vantage Pro with Euro EOBD software may not work for the UK Euro market, now whether that is just the dealers around here saying that I am not sure, but it's a lot of money to spend buying from another Country to find that it does not work in the UK?

At the moment I am a little torn between buying the Vantage Pro duel scope or the Pico Tech four channel scope, or the Sun Tech four channel scope????

                      Unsure at the moment

If you update or reload your software and Euro coverage disappears, you just need to reinstall Euro.
