MODIS Scope Error Code

When I select the Scope, I get this error and have to shut down and restart my MODIS.

"Application Modis.exe has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor."

Modis Error

Shut the Modis down. Slide the scope module out, make sure the edge board connector is clean, (pencil reaser) put back in place, to ensure solid secure fit. Away you go.

LOL.....you work for tech support? Same thing they had me do. Still getting the error. Just had my MODIS completely rebuilt. Everything is new except the rear cover so it should be working fine....

KW like myself has most likely had this error or a similar one and dealt with tech support. This is one of the standard first shot attempts to clear up the problem. Did you call them back and tell them it didn't work? They may have you try to reset the CF card next so when you call be at your PC with a card reader and your Modis. Let us Know.

I will call them again in the A.M. I was just kidding with KM. I know he knows what he is doing. I have taken classes from him.

What I am hoping is that it being about 1 month since my MODIS returned completely rebuilt, that there is not a problem with it again. I did notice when I removed the scope module that it "looked" like the one that was in there when I sent it in(same marks on it). I had a problem with the scope module is why I sent it in in the first place. Cross your fingers for me...LOL

i have the same problem with my motis i talked to jim morits and the problem is the ground circut in the unit you cannot go into the scope with the scanner plugged into the car try unpluging the scanner this is bad because i was told i could be recording scan data while using the scope my dealer is unknolagable about the products he is selling

The problem has nothing to do with scanner ground, that issue has to do with the scanner being plugged into the car while doing pinpoint amps and voltage testing , which will have a negative effect on the scope as a result of the scanner feeding pcm voltage into the unit giving you a misread on your scope tests. Has been around since the very first Modis. Has never, and will not cause the error message Masterwrench is speaking of.

My MODIS has experienced this problem more often since the last update. It hasn't occurred often enough to bother me though. Please post details of a successful repair. My biggest problem is battery life. I charge the unit all night and only get an hour off the A/C adaptor. Good luck.

Modis Battery

I always get 2.5 hrs of non-stop use of a full charge.
If you are letting the battery discharge all the way charging the battery with the unit on, should work, and of all of the Modis I use in training classes I do, if they are cycled and charged properly at least 2.5 hrs of non stop use. You may have a battery problem.

I use have my MODIS plugged into AC and sitting on top of my toolbox when not in use. When I disconnect it to use it on a vehicle I can get 2 hours or so before the battery indicator turns completely red. I also have a second battery and charger that I can use if I need more battery power.

I will get back with what they tell me the "fix" is. I did not get any kind of itemized invoice of what was actually done last time when it was "rebuilt" and talked to my dealer and he says he did not get one either.

Something to consider,

I know we all have heard charge them(Modis) on. But you do need to turn the units off from time to time to avoid conflicts between Windows and the Scanner/Scope. No different than leaving a computer or laptop on all the time which many do, but Windows runs alot of sweeps in the background. From experience with any of my computers, if I leave them on, I end up having slower running machines until I turn them off then back on. Not saying this your entire problem with your Modis, just keep it in mind when you get your Modis back.

I usually get it out in the A.M. and plug it in and turn it on. I have not had a problem doing that. It usually runs without a hitch.

The "original" problem was that channel 2 went out on me when I was using my SAI 2000 and or tried to use just channel 2.

Now the problem is when I use my scanner then go to the scope to test after looking at data and codes in the scanner I get that error. I can restart and then go directly to the scope and it is fine.

Example: I had a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix in yesterday. Road tested and saved scanner data. Returned to the shop and reviewed the files. After that I tried to go to the scope and got the error. It only happens if I use the scanner first or just before trying to get into the scope....

I will restart it now on occasion throughout the day and see if it helps...

Dealer is coming in on Tuesday to pick it up and send it out on Thursday....
