My snap-on rep gave me a attractive quote for the passthru pro-lll and (EEBM500) battery maintainer combo. Is this an adequate batt maintainer/charger for flashing???

NOPE!!!! You will need this
Note that is says it is for Flash programming. Certain vehicles need to maintain exact voltage when reprogramming the unit your dealer is showing you won't cut it!

Besides $600.00 and the size, everything!

What your dealer is selling is a "MAINTAINER". The charger I gave you the link to is a "CHARGER' which is meant for programming. Check the specs between the two. Look on the manufacturers websites. Ask your dealer if he will pay for the modules you brick when the maintainer can't keep up with the vehicle load during programming. They are other chargers out there that will do the job, this is just one from Snap-on.

I think if I rarely did any programming, I would probably chance it and just use a big honkin 1000 CCA marine or AGM Beemer battery as a buffer between between a good regular charger and the car battery to dampen anything spikey. Anyone use a scope to prove it wouldn't work?Comment
