Windows Pro
I'm not sure , but I think that Windows 10 Home would work just fine if you know what you are doing and don't run into problems needing tech assistance. I believe the real reason is , that in the event you do run into issues that would require a tech's assistance by remote access to your PC from a built in Window's 10 Pro program to access your PC, your Windows 10 home doesn't cut it because it don't have that remote access program built in. Even though Team Viewer can do the same sh@t, The tech on the other end may not have or wish to download Team Viewer Program . Also ,some C@cks@ckers still love to send Microsoft Word Documents instead of PDF that forces you to have to purchase Microsoft Word or use free Ubuntu to open the email file Cr@p
I think for a 2 day sub with a used ECM I would take my chances trying Home, but it would P@ss me off if Fire Fox didn't work and i had to use Windows Explorer.

Went to Micro Center for a free zip drive and walked out with a purchased new windows 10 pro laptop I don't really need yet. I was looking at the advertised ASUS I-3 for $279 or an I5 model for $349, but they have Windows 10 home, so I inquired about how much extra it costs to upgrade Home to Pro, and I think it was at least a hundred dollars or more , so I asked about what they have in lap tops that already come with Windows 10 Pro to see how much more $. It turned out they had a new I-3 500gb hard drive Lenovo V110 that comes with built in Pro and Blue tooth for only $250. The sales associate told me that he would recommend the 1yr protection plan for $40 because he had one come back with broken hinges. I go home with it plug it in and turn it on , set it up and update the Mc Afee that comes on it . Don't see any option on screen for Internet Explorer 11. Ask my son who taps the microphone tab in tray and says , "Open Internet Explorer" and IE 11 opens right up , and right off the bat McAfee quarantines some sort of an Exploit Trojan threat, just opening IE 11, WTF!, and I haven't even got a J2534 yet to do any programming side jobs yet.
I tap the start button in the lower left corner and see the goofey tile interface and the A-Z list to sift through all the apps. I down load Start 10 for $5 and got a more familiar start menu ,so don't need to tell Cortana to find and open any apps if I'm too lazy to search or sift through the list.
Thought about it awhile, all the time needed to transfer the sh@t from my Windows 10 Home Laptop to my new Windows 10 Pro laptop, and just figured give it to my wife as a belated Mothers Day Gift with the condition I may have to use it if I got to do J2534 Flash work, if her old Lenova with Windows 7 Pro and a small 80 GB SSD won't meet the requirements for occasional J2534 duty(which it probably does need a much larger hard drive in order to do reprogramming)

For just flash programming you will be fine, provided it is configured properly.
Having said that,I don't see the profit in programming outweighing the risk of screwing up a customers module. The only reason I set up for programming in the aftermarket is so I could complete the jobs. And having many hours of dealership training in several brands I am familiar with both the process and setting up my equipment properly.
After I got set up and the word got around, the local dealers promptly lowered their pricing.Just sayin.Last edited by Glide; 05-16-2017, 08:02 AM.Comment

I think I would take my chances with a $25 sub failing , on a Windows 10 Home PC , a salvage yard ECMs for beaters , and a non validated China man J2534. If it works, cool , if the car is too new to find a used economical module of the same calibration , then I'll just take a pass on reprogramming.
If I have enough success and volume of doing the occasional used modules , using Windows 10 Home , and a non validated Chinese Pass through device to feel confident upgrading to pass through pro and windows 10 pro, and start re- flashing some new modules too.

I Just got a brand new Windows 10 Pro Lenova laptop and it comes with Microsoft Edge as the default Browser and a Trial Version of Mc Affee . When My son asked Cortana, The Virtual Assistant to open Internet Explorer , it opened up Internet Explorer 11 home page and McAfee immediately opens up and says it quarantined a couple threats that were Trojans called Exploit (something). exe. I don't know if it was really something Legit or just a White Lie False Positive to make you think that the Trial version of MC Affee is actually doing something indispensable that you got to buy it if you want your computer to survive past the trial period
. I deleted the quarantined objects because I don't know if they are something pre installed by McAffee to F' you up if you don't decide to pay up for 12 months after the trial period is up. I don't trust any of these Money Grubbing Advertisement Whore Corporations especially if the programs want to remember your passwords and you don't plan to renew their services forever

Think I will wipe the wife's old Windows 7 laptop and try that for programming off Internet Explorer. Can't be anymore risky than 4X4 off roading
with a Ford Explorer.Attached FilesLast edited by Witsend; 05-19-2017, 12:24 PM.Comment
