    Ford Module Programming

I am new to module reprogramming. I have a PTPII and a new laptop to run it. It took me several hours to get all the drivers installed and a SnapOn tech had to take over my PC to correctly install the software. Once that was done, the FMP software had its own issues(getting the cursor into the userid field). After all of that, the actual reprogramming seems very simple. The Ford website states to only use Windows XP to run their FMP software. I am currently using Windows 7 Pro and have flashed one Ford and two GM modules with no problems. Do they mean Windows XP or later or am I just lucky? Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

Yes WindowsXP is recommended, but if Window7 Pro worked then thats good. do you have 32bit or 64bit?

          Hi Spotnoid,

I have used vista 32 bit for ford and it works well, but I dont think I would use 64 bit or you might end up killing a module.

          Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the input. Is there something you have heard or seen that makes you afraid of using a 64 bit computer? Thank again Rich.

Windows 7 32 and 64 bit are now supported by Ford, however reflashing Sync with windows 7 64 bit is at this time not possible

I use VCM, have 2 machines, one windows 7 64 bit and one windows XP pro, I use teradyne wireless card, quoted from teradyne site "Q. What are the minimum system requirements to use a VCM wirelessly?
                      A.
To use a VCM wirelessly using the Teradyne Wireless Card, your PC must be equipped with at least the following:

                      Windows XP Professional with SP2

                      Windows Vista is NOT Supported

                      Windows 7 32 & 64 bits (only in Ad-Hoc Mode)

                      USB 2.0 Port(s)
I run my system Ad-Hoc, release 11.2.0, no reflashing concerns up to 6.4L DIT, for this engine and 6.7L I cable up. This is FORDS stated release note
PLEASE NOTE: IDS R72 software release is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit operating system, except for the following uses:
•Windows 7 64-bit operating systems will not support MD Truck use.
•Windows 7 64-bit operating systems will not support SYNC Programming.
•Windows 7 64-bit operating systems that are installed with 2 (two) Internet Explorer versions, one is labled "Internet Explorer" and the other "Internet Explorer (64-bit)". The PTS Read VIN & DTCs function and Toolbox tab are not supported by the Internet Explorer 64-bit version.
Support of Windows 7 64-Bit is now available with IDS R72. If you are experiencing issues with the Realtek Drivers not installing on a Windows 64-Bit machine, see the IDS 64-Bit Troubleshooting Guide. We highly recommend running IDS on a Windows 32-Bit Operating System.

                      hope this helps
