    pass thru pro II

I am thinking of purchasing the passthru pro from Snap on. The support from my dealer and tech guy is limited as far as the operation of the system.

My main concern is "what can I flash?" Am I limited to ECM/TCM, I heard this from one guy or can I flash any module providing the dealer releases the info online? Help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. I am located in Canada if that makes any differance....

    Thanks.

You can find most of the answers at www.nastf.org and http://www.drewtech.com/technician/s...elpcenter.html . I own a PTPII and it does what it is designed to do. Each vehicle manufacturer decides what they will allow the aftermarket tech to do, beyond emissions related updates for 2005 and newer MY vehicles. To be efficient and profitable with a J2534 tool, it definitely requires alot of homework by the end user.

Since it is made by drew tech, I would only weigh whether or not it works with Drew-Tech's "toolbox" and whether or not their tech support "supports" it. They may be better suited to give ongoing support and extra goodies like the toolbox, therefore, i would consider drew tech's own device.

Went to flash a Hyundai yesterday and since the PTP2 is not on Hyundai's approved device list it won't allow you to do the flash. I wish S/O could put some pressure on Hyundai to approve it, Otherwise I will have to buy another J2534 device just for Hyundai!

I recommend updating your Toolbox, drivers & Firmware at http://66.36.241.150/downloads/snapon/current.zip Everything including the user's manual was updated this past spring, and available on Snap-on's PTPII website.
What Hyundai expects to see is:
            API- 4.04 / DLL - 1.9.28 / Firmware - 1.9.28
See the after (1.09.28) and before (1.09.20) firmware update screenshots -

                Ptp2

Since the PTP2 is made by Drew Technologies the Drew Toolbox will work with the PTP2 as well as Bosch's version of the same tool. I had the drivers for all 3 of these tools (counting the Cardaq Plus) on the same laptop and I could update the firmware in all of them with Drew's Toolbox by using the drop down arrow on the upper right corner of the software and choosing which tool I wanted to update. If you only have the PTP2 then there will not be a drop down arrow to make a choice. You can use the Drew Toolbox as it will adjust to whichever drivers are on your PC. So long as the J Tool is made by them.
Drew Tech has some great training videos for programming on their website. I recommend anyone starting out to review these videos as a guide.
I have found that most of the Snappy tech reps do not have much experience.
I flash with J Tools as well as OEM tools for most car lines. Feel free to contact me with any flashing questions. I have flashed several thousand vehicles and have hit just about every pitfall there is, except that I have not lost a module (knock on wood)!

The J-2534 toolbox shown in my screenshot above is the one I downloaded directly from the Snap-on PTPII website. I don't think there is any difference between the Cardaq and PTPII version, anymore. The new user's manual is also more user friendly and described how to update the PTPII firmware as shown in my previous post.

Thank you very much jrorl63! I will do that on Monday. It has been awhile since I updated my J2534 toolbox.

hi folks am wondering if anyone could give a bit of advice am based in the uk and just thinking ahead would a pass thru pro II be of any use to us over here yet ?
i have asked my local dealers about ptp2 but they aint heard of it?
i can see its the way manufacturers are going but unsure of whether many manufacturers are making available software updates for their vehicles to aftermarket repairers ?
                      any advice is appreciated
