What a pain. 2006 Saturn Ion. Did a lock cylinder and housing. I had to relearn the theft. So, I get out my MDI, (Tech 2 won't do it!).
When you open SPS on TIS to WEB, you get all those cautionary statements about "do not attempt to reprogram BCM, contact support" so, I did.
After sitting on hold with AC Delco support, I get a genteman that after explaining to him what I want to do, says, "are you replacing the BCM?" I say no. He says "then you didn't need to call, you can go ahead an reprogram the BCM or do your theft learn". Hmmmm, I explain to him what the messages says,"do not attempt to reprogram etc..call for authorization" he says "I know, just go ahead and reprogram". I ask him "why doesn't the SPS page say "DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE" instead of "REPROGRAM". He says "he does't know". I told him that must generate a lot of needless phone calls, he responds with "hey, it's a Saturn, why do you think GM dumped them?" I had to laugh. HE says, "go ahead and relearn it, I'll stay on the line"
So I do. So now, keeping in mind, I just want to do a theft relearn., I have to answer all the configuration questions. California 15" tires or 16" tires or Federal 15" or 16". Equipped with ABS/ traction control or not? RKE or not? and on and on. All these question can be answered, but why?? It even asked me what tire size again, this time the actual tire aspect.
@%*&#&)(@!!! I just want to do a frickin' theft relearn. Well, it worked. The car started up.
They sure give a lot of room for error. Can you imagine, having a BCM issue because you fat fingered a configuration question, just because you wanted to do a theft relearn? I never went through all of that on any other GM.
For the record, we did try the "leave the key on in the run position" to try learn that way, it didn't work.
