Hooked my pass thru pro II up today, I get a message that states I need to connect tool to pc and pick device from drop down box in upper right corner. I have done all that and the j2534 tool box program just sits there and does nothing. I have had this tool since 7/12 and everytime I need it never works the first time. Any ideas without me having to spend more valuable time on the phone with snap on once again.

I'm definitely not an expert on the PTPII. I've got one, but there are guys here that use it WAY more than I do.
That said, I have to have mine plugged in the DLC before I can move around the menus, including choosing a device.
Hope that helps.

I have had it connected it to the car all along, it is powered up or at least the lights are on. I just downloaded the latest drivers and installed them and still have the same results. It shouldn't take more a minute or two to conect should it, I waited until the message repeated itself and then tryed again. I guess it's time to get on the phone again.Comment

Im not sure if this will help but have you tried a differant usb port on your pc? I use the pass threw 1 and once in awhile it wont connect so i unplug the usb connector then plug it into a differant usb port, then it makes connecton. just a thought.I have had it connected it to the car all along, it is powered up or at least the lights are on. Des,
When you have the PTPII connected to your computer via USB, is the #2 status light on? What version of Windows are you using? When you originally installed your PTPII, did you plug it into your computer while powered first? Or did you install the drivers first?

Happened to me 2 times already. I usually just disable any anti-virus and just uninstall everything. It's a bit tedious, but it works. After uninstalling all the drivers, I reboot.
Go back to installing the drivers and the toolbox again. Another reboot just in case.
After this, I make sure the car has charge(very important), all anti-virus programs are disabled and then start plugging in everything.
Car fist, then laptop. Open ToolBox and choose PTPII.
Give it a try. Worked for me. I use windows 7 32-bit, 64-bit and Windows XP SP3 32-bit. Regards, Chavez.
