Tech2Win with Pass Thru Pro II

So Drew Tech now has a driver available to use the Pass Thru Pro II with GM's Tech2Win application.

Check out http://www.drewtech.com/technician/tech2win.htm for the info.

Has any one tried this yet ? Will it work with the PTP2 ? Will it work with GDS2 for the newer GM vehicles ?

      Hi Bob

I myself have not tried it yet, BUT.... Brian Herron who works for Drewtech states that it will work!

BUT (again)... if you go to the GM site GM states that they do not supply support for using this interface and to contact the tools manufacturer. Depending on who you speak to at Drewtech if you tell them that you are using the PTPII they may tell you to contact Snap-on. So you can wind up chasing your tail if you have a problem. I will try and get an answer for you if Snap-on can supply the needed support for this.

I don't think it will work with the GDS2 platform, that is only working on the MDI. PTPII should work with the Tech2win, just download the driver from Drewtech, and it should work. Going to try it Monday with my Cardaq-plus, I will let everyone know how it works, unless someone uses it before me.

Cool, I got it to work with the PTPII. Kinda time consuming though. If you were going to use this all the time you would want to keep it open all day.

Ok, I have used it on my Windows 7 (HP) laptop and my XP (Dell) laptop. I have noticed one thing, if you load it on the first laptop (HP), then load it on the second laptop (Dell) it will cancel the first laptop and say "Your license has expired or does not exist!". It will work on both OS's, just GM does not offer any support when using XP.
From what I have seen, it does about 90 to 95% of what a Tech2 does. I like it alot.

Another thing that I noticed is that if you want to use the PTPII to flash ,you have to first close the Tech2Win program or the PTPII won't communicate thru the SPS program.

                Pasthru Pro 2 with Tech2win

                Hi folks,

Using the PTP2 more and more each year. It is slowly become a valuable tool in my tiny arsenal.

Lately I am trying to use as a GM diagnostic tool for 2007 and 2008 Chevy trucks.

I fail to be able to make it work as an interface with tech2win. I have downloaded and installed the Drewtech GM driver and toolbox version 3. I can communicate with a bench E40 (2006 GTO) ECM I have as a spare. I can read the VIN from the ECM also.

When I click the "Start Software Download" on the tech2win site Java screen initializes then a box to select Tech 1 or Tech2 tool. I hit next then the laptop sees NO communication and I get an error screen with E4015 "error communicating with the diagnostic tool".

This is as far as I get.

Is there a tutorial for installing, making this work?

Thanks for any help, I can post a screenshot or more details if wanted.

                Thanks folks!

                Fred

Finally got it. The kind people at Bosch made a nice Youtube video that solved my problems. Working with PTP2 now.

Hope it's ok to post this link.
